I was at my local library today, and walked past a windowed “study room” in which several kids were studying in a group. They looked like eighth or ninth graders. One kid was standing at a whiteboard with a marker and the others were seated around a conference table with their American History books open. The kids at the table were giving the important points of the Ordinance of 1787 while the kid at the whiteboard wrote down their comments.
This was at 4 p.m. on a Sunday, during the first month of the school year. They were obviously there of their own free will - not an adult in sight. I didn’t know whether to congratulate them on their diligence or tell them to go outside and play before they’re grown up and it’s too late.
