A high school friend is a domestic terrorist.

From WRAL:

According to one of the articles linked at the bottom of the page, he and his friends are members of a group considered domestic terrorists by the FBI.

Honestly, I’m surprised. He’s been ranting about anarchy since middle school and did some traveling to participate in WTO protests after he dropped out in 10th grade, but I really hadn’t considered that he might actually attack someone.

You never do. I found out that a few years back that an old friend out mine from high school had snapped and stabbed his girlfriend. He’s currently serving a life sentence. We always thought that he was kind of odd, but…

The son of the local police chief, incidentally.

A classmate of mine was a sergeant in the National Guard and he disappeared from Guantanamo. Just disappeared. Poof. He was finally declared dead, but it was so strange to see his picture in the paper and learn that this very normal, average guy was part of a weird mystery.

Simple assault can be a shove. If he had hurt someone, the charge would have been aggravated assault. It sounds as if the term “terrorist organization” is being stretched just a little bit.

Yeah, there are student groups that are on “terrorist watch lists” as well. Groups that protest WTO conferences and such.

Sounds like the camera crew got in his face and he started shoving them in a run-of-the-mill scuffle.

I didn’t see the organization named in any of the articles, but if I had to guess I’d say they probably mostly do WTO protests. That said, he used to occasionally talk about more radical groups in approving terms.

If I had to guess, I’d say it was probably a combination of stress from his friends being arrested and from not taking his meds. It just happened to be cameramen that set him off. Does anyone have any idea what sort of punishment he’s looking at?

I’d kind of like to contact him or his dad and see what exactly’s going on. We haven’t spoken much in the past couple of years, but we were pretty good friends for a while there; doesn’t seem right to just write him off.
