a hypothetical summer

ok. This is my second new thread already, but i feel so close to you people i thought you might be able to help my friend here.

you see, i have this hypothetical friend. his name is Boris. Boris has a dillema. In the exotic lands amongst which Boris lives, the summer holidays are from november to the end of february.

Boris has othing to do this summer. He is at uni and studies a reasonably challenging course, so will need a break. He also until recently had no commitments over that time - no obligation to get a job, though he has one lined up if he needs it. Sounds like a perfect recipie for a 20 year old… a summer of sex, drugs and rock and roll… travel a bit… work a bit… time with friends…

But then bad happenned. Boris’ little sister got put into a coma by some bad disease. So boris realizes that he cannot make any plans for summer. He cannot commit to his job as sis lives in a different city. But sis may need constant care and attention each day, not to mention the support boris’ parents will need.

So Boris… a summer before him but unable to make any plans. What is he to do? Stay at home and waste a summer that could be the best of his life? Because there is a large chance that he will not be needed as his sister may get better or worse… so he can not make any plans… and may be obliged by his neurotic parents to stay at home anyway

what is boris to do?

Let me get this straight: Boris’s little sister is in a coma with a bad disease, and he’s lamenting his circumstance. Do I have that right?

If so, tell Boris that what he ought to do this summer is cut his balls off and die.

This, uh, “close friend” Boris - I sure hope he’s not yourself IRL. Because “Boris” would find very little sympathy here towards himself and the idea of not helping his own sister in any way possible.

So he wants a Summer of “sex, drugs, and rock and roll?” How about a Summer of showing he’s a compassionate human being who loves his sister? Who can help take some of the burden off of other friends and relatives who have to care for the sister?

How about some other things he could do while being there with her? Like reading some great (or at least fun) novels? Like writing down his story of his life to date, or his dreams, or anything? Learning a foreign language? Learning to play a musical instrument? Other people will come back from Summer vacation drugged out, stupid, and lazy, and he will come back more educated, polished, and urbane. And nothing attracts us smart chicks like that!

I’m quite certain that if Boris goes to his sister he will not be locked away like a monk for 24/7 - I imagine he will just have to be there to share the load. I cannot imagine this precludes him from a job, partying, relaxing, and indulging in the afroementioned “sex, drugs, and rock and roll”.

boris is to read the forum descriptions before opening new threads.

Off to MPSIMS.

Damn, I thought it was gonna be a global warming question.

Tell Boris to take care of his family. They’re all he has.

So what did Boris decide, Morris?
