Last week I was offered a job standing at a urinal - no, that doesn’t sound right. I was propositioned while standing at a urinal - that’s not it either.
Actually I was at three day training seminar, when our instructor offered me an interview (hopefully, the interview will be taking place in a real office). And this is for a job for which he said “when I walk onto an oil rig, I know for sure that I’m the highest paid guy there”.
So is this the stangest place anyone’s ever had a job offer, and also, should I take the job?
Pretty much all of my job offers have come by telephone or in an office.
Once, however, I was offered a job - no interview, just the job straight out, while volunteering at an event at the Zoo.
I was lending my services as a techie-type for an annual commerative event and was heavily involved in coordinating A/V setups, radio communications, crew placement, etc. Two gents from a local concert promotion agency handed me business cards, told me they had a couple of openings for people who could multi-task and coordinate this kind of stuff and would I be interested in coming over to talk - and if interested, could I start on Monday? (This was Saturday afternoon.)
I went, I looked, I talked, they talked and the job actually looked pretty interesting until we got to that pesky part about pay …
Turns out that they were looking for a Rembrandt for the price of a pre-school finger painter. I think that’s why they “recruited” amongst Zoo volunteers
Once got a job offer from someone who had picked me up hitchhiking. A real job. Went in for an interview, things clicked and I took the job. Only lasted two months, but that was at a time that I changed jobs frequently.
Dammit! I knew I was missing something about these exciting sounding jobs in the oil industry - didn’t realise it was the ability to stand when I pee
I haven’t experienced any life changing events in the bathroom either but I did get offered my current job (in the oil biz) after getting ahem slightly drunk with the person who was interviewing without realising who they were. During the interview after assessing techie engineering stuff I was told I was obviously the type of person who would fit in with the company would I like a job.
