A letter to people who don't pay their bills:

regarding the first post on this thread:

that is the most anal-retentive bullshit I have ever heard in my life. for christ’s sake, it’s not YOUR money. you’re talking about it like it’s your own personal allowance you’re being screwed out of. this is a huge corperation you work for, with how many customers? a few thousand? a few hundred thousand? people don’t pay their bills all the fuckin time. this is not a unique phenonenon with your cable company, and is actually quite widely practiced.

this is a very simple situation: if people don’t pay their bill, shut their service off! the second you do this, they will call and pay over the phone 90% of the time. showing up and someone’s door and asking for money is retarded. if anyone from the cable company showed up at my door threatening to cut off my cable i’d slap him upside the head. everyone pays for their cable in advance, so if i dont pay you this month, its not like i’m getting away with a whole lot of service that i didn’t pay for.

i’ve done similar worked, and had to deal with customers who did not pay their bill. it’s not worth getting this pissed off about. if they don’t pay, shut their damned service off, and that will let them know that they will not get shit if they aren’t going to pay their bill.

oh yeah, and sorry for the rant.

Another reason–It costs me $X to get a PPV movie. Okay. It costs me less to go get the video. In theory. In reality, they never seem to make it back on time and I end up paying twice for the same movie. Yes, it’s my fault, but it happens. I don’t have to worry about returning the PPV movie.

With a rental, you can watch it over and over again ---- that week. With PPV, I tape it, and genuinely watch it at my convenience, which may be weeks or months after I taped it.

I have two kids, and don’t have large windows of time available to watch movies (particularly the ones which are inappropriate for them to be watching with me.) I order PPV, tape it (frequently overnight, while we’re sleeping), and watch it when I get around to it. Sometimes I may watch 30 minutes of it one day, and hour the next, and finish it on the weekend.

And I don’t have to worry about rushing out to the video store to get it turned back in on time.

Various options work better for varying lifestyles.
