a line of a poem in Sense and Sensibility

In Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet I heared a line of a poem - and I d love to find out what poem it is. But it is hard to find - as I saw the film in German and can only guess the translation…

“Nothing gets lost that can not be found if you are searching for it…” or something similar.
The Curnel (sp?) read it to Maryanne at the end of the movie, when she is recovering from her illness.

Anybody know the title or author?

Thanx a lot

“For there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought.” – [The Faerie Queene, Book V, Canto II](http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~rbear/queene5.html#Cant. II.), by Edmund Spenser. You might want to check out this Sense and Sensibility FAQ.

Nil tam difficilest quin quærendo investigari possiet (Nothing is so difficult but that it may be found out by seeking).- Terence: Heautontimoroumenos, iv. 2, 8.

BTW, “Curnel” is spelt “Colonel” in English, but you can blame the French for the odd spelling. Everyone knows the correct spelling should be “Oberst”.

pluto you are soooo right ;)

Thanx guys - I ll check out the link.
hehe looking forwards to reading it…
