A little culture comes to Texarkana

A few weeks ago workers began renovating a house right off one of the main thoroughfares I travel on my way to work. The area was once completely residential, but now has mixed zoning where homes and businesses are neighbors.

As work continued on the house, they started building a parking lot around the building. It became clear that it was being converted from a domicile to a business, which is not uncommon in that area.

Then they put up the sign about two weeks ago. The sign announced that they would be serving café and beignets.

Let me write that again, Café and Beignets!

They opened this morning. I am positively giddy with excitement. As I sipped my cappuccino and munched on the golden-fried goodness covered with powdered sugar, I couldn’t help but think that there is hope afterall.

Oh my god…

Homebrew, could you post the address?

When I get a real day off, I think that would be worth the drive!

-David

Texas must be experiencing a beignet surge!

I live in Fort Worth. I was driving to the store and saw that a new cafe is opening up: Crescent City…featuring cafe and beignets.

mmmmmmmmmmm.
(open! open! open!)

The address is 3130 Richmond Road. It’s just past the new Wendy’s under construction, on the right, headed north from I-30.

They also have sausage and cheese kolaches.

sigh

dammit…i feel like i need to rush off to Eureka Springs now. it’s only a 5 hour drive…sigh

Perhaps you could toss that address off in the thread, as I will be visiting Texarkana this weekend for my wife’s family reunion (groan) and could go for a nice hot cup o’ joe and some Beignets.

Perhaps you would join me and the wife, as I am sure by Saturday night I will be ready to get away from the uber-Christians.

I’m shocked - SHOCKED, I tell you - that someone would claim there are “uber-Christians” in Texarkana. Is your wife from the Texas or Arkansas side of town?

Homebrew,
Recovering Pentecostal.
P.S.
The address is 3130 Richmond Road. It’s just past the new Wendy’s under construction, on the right, headed north from I-30.

Drop me an email and I’ll send you my phone number. I’d be glad to meet ya for some coffee. Their hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., by the way.

BEIGNETS!!!

Ohhh I hope they open one in Longview. Otherwise I’ll have to drag Gunslinger to Texarkana just for a beignet.

Texarkana is still closer than N’awlins, at least.

I doubt they’ll branch out, racinchikki. It’s one of those local joints with the owner serving you, not a chain.

Her folks are from Hope, Arkansas. The cabin that we use is owned by a friend of the family. I discussed the 2001 version of the reunion here and the aftermath here.

They are a strange bunch.

Rob
He who is not strange… well, not like that anyway.

I used to work with a guy from Hope. He died a few days ago and was buried in full camo with duck calls. What exactly is strange again?

Homebrew - are you saying Texarkana didn’t have culture before? I mean think of The Point, I’m not sure exactly what kind of culture bomboo/reed/grass walls and those beaded curtain thingies are but it is some sort for sure:eek:.

Here ya go BNBdrool

Damn, you guys have me hungry now too.

Huh. Given it’s a post by Homebrew about culture, I was expecting something about yeast…

Beignets are a pastry and require the use of yeast.

I got yer doughnuts (humph! Beignets… please! French donuts?) and yer coffee right here Homebrew

Do the President, Congressman Delay and the Texas legislature know about these French donuts? Can the Killer Ds pick them up on the way back from Oklahoma?

Ooh, where in FW?!? I am in Keller. Probably on the other side of FW, knowing my luck

Well, foo. Even if they don’t chain, maybe somebody else could hop on the beignet bandwagon and start selling them in Longview.

Eh. I’ll drag Gun to Texarkana and he’ll like it.

mishaa,

It is to be located in the Central Market shopping center.
This is about 5 minutes from downtown at 30 and Hulen.

Hopefully when we have a dopefest, it will be open!
Keep your eyes peeled for a DFW dopefest listing.

God bless 'em, Homebrew!

I spent the worst six months of my life in Hope, AR. Truly, it is populated by the most awful people I have met in my travels of this Continent.

But the Texas side of the line ? A little brighter, a lot saner, and finally beignets! I keep a watercolor of Cafe du Monde in my kitchen just for inspiration.
