A little suggestion for Indiana

Too bad it’s only one day per year, huh?

**I don’t care how we work it all out, but life is better when there is usable daylight after work. **

Sitting inside pissing away daylight sucks. I’d go for two-hours of DST, or in lieu of DST, I would love to see companies adopt more spring/summer hour plans, start earlier and end earlier in the day, so we can finish earlier in the day.

Whew. Way to Go, Indiana.

If you don’t like DST, and you see no prognosis of getting done regular business before the traditional 4.30 to 5, just what the heck are you willing to put up with??? I mean…when the sun is out and I can use it, I feel alive. ** I guess if your life is surfing the net, scratching your balls and eating bonbons, you would not give a rat’s ass about DST, but why would you OPPOSE it?**

I can’t speak for the others, but I don’t oppose it, I just don’t see why we should bother with it at all. I can’t think of much that would require me to be outside in the evening hours we’re talking about, and if I am out at that time I don’t understand why it would matter if it were sunny or dark. I do have a porchlight

Now, stop all this fussing. It’s interferring with my bon-bon and surfing time.

It’s not big a deal. To program my VCR I simply select “summertime in” in the spring and “Summertime out” in the fall.

I don’t even change the clock in my car. It’s correct 6 months out of the year. That’s good enough for me.

I like the extra hour of daylight after work, it’s like a little reward for surviving the winter here. Although this winter didn’t ever really arrive. I’ve had to brush snow off my car only TWICE this winter.

I don’t even have to do that. VCR, cable box, computer – they do all the work for me. I just have to change a couple of analog clocks.

Except that it is already light here until 9pm or later in the summer. After we change time, it will be light until 10pm or later. Since I get up at 5am, that extra hour of daylight after work doesn’t do squat for me - my butt had best be headed towards bed. I will, however, have a couple more months of driving to work in the dark every morning, and the kids in the neighborhood will have a couple extra months of waiting in the dark for the school bus.

I’m not actually opposed to DST as much as I am opposed to being on EASTERN DST. If the whole state moved to Central time (as both the northwest and southwest corners of Indiana are doing), then I would see a purpose other than “But everybody else is doing it!”

I live right on the Ohio/Indiana border, so I’ve had to deal with the whole ‘Indiana Time/Ohio Time’ thing all my life, and it will be nice to have it be just one time no matter what side of the road I’m on. Plus, I won’t have to stay up 'til midnight to catch the late local news!

We’ll make it okay, but it’s a totally new concept for a lot of us. Our silly government went on permanent Eastern Standard Time before a lot of Hoosiers were born. Now we’re getting close to this Spring Up, Fall Down thing, and some of us will have to ponder just which way to adjust the clocks. I remember doing it when I was a kid, but that was a long time ago. Ever since then, twice a year, most of the TV shows aren’t on at the right time anymore.

But just think. From now on you will be reminded twice a year to check the batteries in your smoke detectors.

 Oh great, we gotta get smoke detectors now?? No one told me the DST came with a smoke detector clause. It’s just too much! I don’t like change!!

What century is it in Indiana?

Oh, it’s probably a good thing. Some folks in Jay County have coal-burning televisions.

I think Saskatchewan is actually on DST all the time, because we are about to catch up with you on Apr. 2 when we fiddle with our clocks again. For all the jokes about how backwards Saskatchewan is, they seem to have got it right and haven’t felt the need to fix something that ain’t broken.

Stillwell, you’re supposed to change your furnace filters when you change your clocks, too. That’s why they do it on the weekend - all these extras take time, you know.

Helping out Saskatchewan:

If you live on different ends of a time zone, there are differences in what time the sun sets. On the eastern end of any time zone, the sun sets earlier than on the western end of the time zone. At the western end, you got light, but the chumps on the eastern end can’t finish their kids baseball games. Meanwhile, the guy on the western end has a few more innings to go.

So…on the eastern end at 7.15, they see the sun set --game over–…but the sun sets later on the western end of the same time zone. YMMV.

When we moved from Iowa to California in 1950 we were pleasantly surprised to find that we no longer needed to get along with our old, steam radio.

I’m getting a little paranoid now. I have a feeling this DST thing is a big conspiracy between the battery and furnace filter companies. Now that they have Indiana in their clutches, can Arizona be far behind… :dubious:

Parts of Indiana have “sprung ahead, fallen behind” for some time now. Like my part of Indiana, which follows whatever Chicago does. There’s been, like, four diffrent time zones in this state for a long time, which is even more confusing than if the whole state lurched ahead or lurched behind at the same time.

Uh… Hawaii and Arizona don’t have DST. So it’s only 47 states. [/nitpick]

I see you have not spent much time in this state.

Indiana’s population is divided sharply between the Smart and the Really Fucking Stupid. I don’t know what they do with the middle ground - maybe they kill and eat them. Basically, I don’t want to know. I only live here because the rent is cheap. Well, OK, there are a couple other reasons, but I don’t want to go into that here.

I hope one of them isn’t cause the food’s cheap:eek:

Indiana food is PEOPLE!!!
