A little young to lose a tooth...

Earlier this evening, my 3 yr old boy hit my 2 yr. old girl in the face with a toy. Her front tooth broke in half and went through her lip. Then she swallowed it. Now she has a small pointy stump of a tooth. Her other front tooth was bleeding by the gumline, so she may lose that one, too! Hopefully she doesn’t and hopefully they can cap the broken one because she has no canine teeth yet. It’s sad, her teeth just grew in and already she’s losing them. : (

She’s ok, by the way, she’s so tough that the entire time she kept saying “Leave me alone, I’m ok” and stopped crying after about 2 minutes. I guess she has to be, she and her brother play and fight rougher than anything I’ve ever seen! Last year he bit her fingernail off. She almost choked him on his own shirt once by pulling him by the collar of it. I’m SO glad I didn’t have a brother.

Poor baby! She’s a trooper though–only 2 and she’s telling you to leave her alone, she’s fine? Sounds like her brother has made her tough.

My 3-year-old son fell and broke one of his front teeth in half just a couple of months ago. The dentist ended up having to pull it because there wasn’t enough to salvage.
My son cried for about 5 minutes after he fell and then he was perfectly fine. I, on the other hand, thought I was going to pass out while trying to call the dentist office (I have a strong stomach but I don’t deal well with tooth-related ickiness).

Yeah, I know how you feel, when her motuh was bleeding yesterday I was extremely grossed out by it. That sucks that your son had to have his tooth pulled!

I took her to the dentist today and he said her tooth looks ok to stay in. They won’t cap it at her age because it would require anesthesia, but if we want they’ll cap it when she’s 5 or 6 (which would be pretty much pointless since she’d be losing it around that time anyway.) She was in a great mood today. We had to spend 3 hours in the waiting room, and she crawled on the floor pretending to be a puppy and entertained all the other patients by asking them to read to her. When the dentist asked if she was in pain she said “Yup. Can I have my sticker now?”
I’m impressed. I wasn’t this brave at 2.
