A long time ago in a rather nearby galaxy.....

Well, a librarian has discovered an image of Yoda in a medieval manuscript.

Obviously the “long time ago” was right on the spot, but the “in a galaxy far away” part appears to be somewhat inaccurate… :stuck_out_tongue:

Check it out here ^.^

Must have been written (or copied) by a teenage boy. There’s a lot of gratuitous penises in it.

Alright, who here can read medieval French?

I can’t but my guess is that we’re looking at a depiction of a friendly house spirit. OTTOMH, such spirits were sometimes believed to be dead relatives returned to protect the living. As such, they looked like short, hairy, old humans. I’ve seen drawings of such house spirits with long fingernails but not the weird webbed/clawed things shown here.

“Julian Harrison, a curator for the British Library, made the shocking discovery…”

The Force is strong with this one.

Maybe Timelinewasn’t entirely false…

So like… that thing from Harry Potter? The one that had a sock fetish or something?

It’s in Latin.

The script gives me a headache, though. Looks like some variation of Gothic Textura, written by someone who had no business using it. I can only pick out a few words here and there. If you feel like courting eyestrain, you can take a look at the whole manuscript. Yoda is on page f.30v, and is not the wackiest thing even on that page, let alone in the rest of the manuscript. The page in question also features a giant bird, a kid who appears to be thinking with portals, and a guy with a pile of poo on his hat and a tentacle for an ass, who looks justifiably annoyed. (Perhaps he represents Jabba? There are guys with tentacles coming out of their hats on other pages…)

More seriously, the article alleges that the page has something to do with Samson, but I couldn’t swear to it. Even if it does, having flipped through most of the manuscript, I am inclined to believe Yoda and his inked brethren have more to do with herbs of dubious quality than the text on the page.

I’m just getting the front cover. I can’t work out how to go to the next page.

There should be a navigation bar above the image of the manuscript. It has a red “British Library” label at the left and forward/back buttons on the right. There’s also a dropdown at the far right of the navigation bar that lets you select a specific page.

I believe he is stepping out from behind the tower. Compare the art on the next page, showing someone stepping through a tower door.

Very likely, but I find my interpretation more amusing.
