A Longshot: Help me find an old FARK article

I’ve tried asking this question on the FARK forums to no avail.

I’m looking for an article posted on FARK (within the last year) about some university student who managed to solve some complex (math?) problem using his personal computer. Let it run for like 2 weeks straight crunching numbers, I think.

Well in this article (maybe Yahoo news), they made a silly mistake saying something like “His computer has 2GHz of RAM”. Obviously a typo, but in the FARK comments were absolutely hilarious. People were mocking the article saying things like “Oh yeah, well I’ve got a 52X monitor with a 45GB mouse!”

I don’t suppose anyone remembers this article? I’d really love to read all those sarcastic comments again, but I can’t seem to find it. I’ve tried searching within FARK, but since I don’t remember the headline or any keywords, it’s near impossible. I really don’t want to scan through the FARK archives week by week.

I know this is a longshot, but…

Anyone know what I’m talking about?

Maybe it was this?

OOOOOOPPPPPSSSSS! That link is obviously not to the FARK article or the comments. Sorry, I just got way too excited to be the first person to answer a question on these boards! (and look- I answered it wrong- story of my life!)

caymus28, don’t throw in the towel yet. You are absolutely right on! Because of your link, I finally had the name of the person and the date of the article, which made finding it on FARK a breeze.

Well done! I knew the SDMB could come through, even on a longshot like this.

For anyone interested, here is the article, but here is the (IMHO) hilarious comments on it on FARK.

Some of my favorite wiseass remarks:

“No one can beat my Mouse with 400mhz fsb”
“I have two furlongs of memory.”
“I have a 7200RPM Sound card!”
“My computer has 12 Volts of Porn on it.”
“I have a 100baseT mousepad.”

and my personal favorite

“Sure it has 2GHz of memory, but can it make the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs?”
