A love for cookbooks: An Epicurean MMP

You all can now rest easily safe and secure in the knowledge that the new MMP is written and ready to be posted sometime between five and six a.m. est tomorrow.

ETA: First on nine! WOOHOO!!!

Back from dim sum with the in-laws. I am stuffed full of dumplingy goodness.

Thanks for the input on the bags, guys. I knew I could count on you! I dropped into a Roots store on the way home to see the bags in person, and I’m still really really torn - the brown looks less frumpy than it does on the web, while the red looks a bit less classy (the leather is actually very grainy, not smooth like in the pix) So we’ll see… I think I’ll tell MIL to surprise me.

SmartyPants, the pup looks absolutely adorable. Hope he doesn’t have too much of the stubborness some huskies have… my uncle’s husky has a feisty streak a mile wide. Also, good luck with the interview tomorrow! Fingers will be crossed.

Dotty, I guess the one thing that unites all nations is the frustrating and convoluted ways our governments like to make our lives hell. Bureaucrats sure do love their red tape. Hope that all runs smoothly when the mister shows up at the embassy for his interview.

I love my carpet cleaner - just in case you were wondering. We took the sofa down to the kids’ living room and I decided while that part of the room was empty, I’d take out the desk and the side table and clean the disgusting family room carpet.

I’ve got a Bissel that I got for free - from credit card bonus points - and it works like a champ. First you go over a section with the detergent, then you switch to just water and go over the same section to rinse. Then move to the next section. I did have to stop and spot clean a couple of nasty areas, including under this desk, but when I was done, the room looked faboo!! Except, despite a good vacuuming, there were still clumps of dog hair that were brought up by the cleaner. So when it was mostly dry, I ran the vacuum again.

Then I used the upholstery attachments to clean the spot where Taz had peed on the recliner love seat. That’s back in the family room now. The living room is a wreck, but I’ll have it cleaned up before the weekend - including its carpet.

I also, finally, hooked up my printer/scanner/copier, and it works just fine. Yay! I promised to scan some pics for my sister and print them out when she comes to our party after Thanksgiving - I just need to find my photo paper.

Daughter is fetching PapaJohn’s for supper. SIL is at work. **FCD **is crashed on the love seat with a cat across his belly. Bernie looks like she’s sleeping on the floor, but she’s actually shedding. I’m doing some laundry. So goeth my weekend.

I’m here! ::waves at everyone, especially LOUNE, since she forgot last post::

Yay for days off, doggio!

I’ve had an indulgent day; haven’t done any of the chores I was supposed to do, unless you count stopping by Trader Joe’s as a chore (I don’t, especially since I bought several items that weren’t on my list).

Bureaucracy *is *something that unites all our governments, isn’t it?

Oh…that does sound like a fun job, Mahna. Not many people get to be employed doing stuff like that; The Boy is lucky.

I think FCM and swampy should come over to my house and clean the carpet and work in my yard. No? I’ll cook.

Got up just in time to make it to church, went to brunch, then went out to find a new TV (the old one is almost 18 years old and was starting to hiss a bit when DVDs were playing and had lovely purple interference scrolling across the picture). I got a 19" one that can also be a monitor, apparently. It was $50 off, so I went for it. Works nicely and is much easier on the eyes that the old TV. Now I’m deciding whether I put the TV where I had the old one or if I just keep it on a cart so that I can move it around as I like. I’m leaning toward the cart. I hate being forced to have a TV as a focal point in the living room.

Guess I should think about things I need to do before tomorrow. Maybe.

Hugs.

GT

We got a new TV today, too! Our old one is only 5 years old, but apparently the “color wheel” is broken, and it costs too much too fix it to be worth it. So we have a new 52" LG LCD flatscreen. It is a thing of beauty, let me tell you.

But my living room is trashed because we had to unhook all the wires and move the big entertainment unit apart and now hubby went to get the base of the entertainment unit that is still in stock and is on sale. $$$$ :smack: Merry Christmas to us!

I’m gonna throw some steaks on the grill in a little bit. I think it’s time for a beerverage or two. (Make that a bourbon and coke. )

Where did the weekend go? :frowning:

Shhh… I’m supposed to be working, but don’t tell.

Actually, I’m sort of still working as I needed a recipe and I came in her to find a link to the Mumpers Recipe Blog.

Ack, I forgot to comment on Muppet’s handbag choices! I’m sorta like CutiePie, though - it’s like comparing apples and oranges. I like both, but for different reasons! The red bag (and doesn’t necessarily have to be in red) would be a good dress handbag; the other bag is the kind I like to use for every day. I guess if I had to pick I’d go with the dressier handbag - it’s quite pretty too.

*<gets ready to rat out *Pie to her boss… >

oh, yeah

AAARGH. My corporate webmail is down… all the work I did this weekend is sitting in my draft folder waiting to be sent, and now I have no way of getting in to do that. Plus I don’t even have the means to contact my boss to explain why she won’t have her files first thing in the morning like I’d promised.

To make this extra-fun, I have to be at a training class tomorrow morning, but I have no idea where it is because the meeting invite is in my $%*&ing email.

sobs

On the bright side, I’m carpooling with one of the IT guys. Guess who’s getting an earful all the way to the office? :stuck_out_tongue:

I had popcorn for supper followed by ice cream for dessert. Healthful eating. That’s the way to go.

I took a melatonin about half an hour ago and it’s beginnin’ to work.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Ok. It’s menu time:

Thanksgiving Menu (to be picked up on Wednesday before Thanksgiving)

Roasted Turkey
Herb Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes with gravy
Rolls and Butter
Maple Glazed Yams
Steamed Green Beans
Cranberry Sauce
Pumpkin Pie
Brownies

$15 per person.

ETA: 10 person minimum
Thoughts? Ideas? How’s the price?

Thanks!

hiccups. owie owie owie

BOO!

Now, what do you think of my menu???

If I round up 9 more people with $15, will you deliver to Raleigh?

For you? Of course!!!;)

I’ll have some of that dinner, too, Pie. I think the price sounds really good. I like the menu because it’s traditional, but with a couple of twists (the maple glaze and, of course, the brownies).

My dinner tonight was broccoli with cheese sauce. I’d been craving that for a while. Leftover cheese sauce will go into mac & cheese tomorrow.

Tired. Crawling into bed now.

See you in the new MMP!

Webmail disaster averted… I finally managed to login around 9pm and send out my files, which hopefully gets me brownie points with the boss.

Pie, that sounds like a yummy meal! I’m stuffed just reading the menu. The price sounds quite reasonable for that amount of food, too… and certainly worth every penny considering it saves the trouble of cooking up a giant 10-person turkey.

Dinner over here was grilled cheese sammiches and a bowl of yogurt with blueberry jam for dessert. I don’t know how I’ll survive another 10 days of soft unchewy lukewarm foods… :frowning: I’m already starting to crave forbidden foods like tortilla chips and carrot sticks and apples and scalding hot coffee.

You rock!

The dinner sounds great! Price is right, too. Wanna come up to CT?
