Didn’t see a thread on this, so thought I’d see if there is any love for the final book around these parts. I pre-ordered the book on Audible, and have it pre-ordered through Amazon as well. The release date is the 8th of January. I’m currently listening to the entire series again…if I have this timed right, I should be up to date (taking time off to listen to the new Iron Druid and Dresden books) when the final book comes out.
So…anyone else anticipating the end of the series and the end of an epic saga (and I don’t mean just the story)? ‘The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, May yet fall under the Shadow. Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time…’
Guess not a lot of love for this, ehe? Ah well, I’m looking forward to it, though a bit sad as well, since I’ve been reading the story since the first book appeared. It’s going to be a BIG book, from the look of things.
I only just noticed the book was being released. I was in the bookstore picking up a copy of the Hobbit. (I haven’t read it in years and wanted to refresh my memory before seeing the movie) and they had a sign up to preorder the book.
I’m looking forward to it. I’m keen to see how it ends, and can’t say I’m sad to to see it over. Because of what happened with the series getting very slow and bogged down through the middle, it’ll be a relief to be able to finish it.
It’s just been such a wild ride over the last 25 years, waiting and waiting, seeing quality go down, fearing it’d never end, fearing it’d never get finished, then finally seeing some decent writing again, then he up and dies…
It’s with more a sense of relief than joy that I anticipate this one.
In addition, having read some of Sanderson’s non-Wheel books, I’m hoping that his coming in to finish out such a high-profile series will put his star in the ascendant, which should make him more marketable for his publisher, which means they should push his stuff harder, which means that maybe my sorry excuse for a public library will actually start ordering him…
I never actually thought of that. I’ve been horribly spoiled by my hometown library (in a smaller city than this, with only one branch, but still having a better selection than the main library here does) and never had to do that before I moved here.
I much prefer to actually read books (not intended to be an insult to book-listeners…it’s just not something I enjoy).
The local libraries are horrible. I’ve been looking for the Malazan books off and on in their catalog and I think they have ONE.
I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the last book. I started reading when there were 4 books in paperback just prior to The Fires of Heaven being released. I picked up all four books without knowing anything about them thinking that those four comprised the series. I read through all four in about a week and was hooked and have been buying the hardcovers since.
I was disappointed in the quality of the middle books, but not enough to give up on the series. Although I think reading the discussion on rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan made up for the declining quality of the books.
I was frustrated at the news of Mr. Rigney’s death and started The Gathering Storm with some trepidation. I was thrilled at the new life breathed into the series and became an avid Brandon Sanderson fan.
It has been a 20 year journey and I can hardly wait to to read about Tarmon Gai’don. With Wheel of Time out of the way I can spend the next 20 years waiting for the next Stormlight Archive books.
