A Movie With Dumbass Women and Her Dumbass Friends

Well, no. The fact that the plot orbits around a dude does, though.

And for that you have thousands of movies. I don’t know… most Hugh Grant stuff, for one.

Not only that, in those rom coms the opposite of “My big fat Greek wedding” is the norm: female characters have paper thin, archetypal personalities while the male guy resembles more a real person, therefore being the one who acts like a dumbass and has the dumb romance-wrecking friends. That’s what I meant. I honestly ignore why you feel the need to argue against that.

Yeah, the Hugh Grant stuff came to my mind, too. Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, etc. Though those are aimed at women, they’re definitely from the guy’s perspective.

Clueless is itself loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, which has been adapted several times for the screen. In all its incarnations Emma is the story of a young woman who, while not really stupid, is nowhere near as smart as she thinks she is and nearly ruins her airhead new best friend’s life by trying to “improve” her. The romantic hero meanwhile is intelligent, rational, and has essentially no flaws other than being a bit stuffy.

Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America springs to mind as not only a male-centered romantic comedy, but a Cinderella story from the prince’s perspective. Murphy’s prince also rejects a lot of stupid, annoying, or downright crazy women before finding his true love.

Dan In Real Life, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Grosse Point Blank and I think an argument could be made for Say Anything… being male-centric (or Lloyd centric).
