Does anyone actually give someone a new car for christmas, as a surprise? Especially a couple.
Getting a new car is a very personal affair, involving choosing the car, color, interior, and accessories etc. Not to mention test drives, mind changes and all that. All of which are a big part of the enjoyment of getting a new car, imho.
And then there’s the problem that a car is a major purchase, a decision usually shared by the couple. My ex would have, justifyably, had my head if I spend $40k or more (BMW) without any discussion.
But every year manufacturers, mostly of high-end cars, run all these ads showing one of a couple surprising the other with a new car.
For a kid for graduation is a different story.
Does anyone know of someone actually getting a new car as a surprise gift? Or, have you bought your so a new X3 for christmas?
Peace,
mangeorge
Surely it has happened. For some that benefit from todays America…40k is pocket change.
Bites his tongue
Yeah, but do they watch Malcom in the Middle? :dubious:
My son used to sell cars and is still connected with the industry. The first 25 days of December are not very busy for the car dealers. Then the last days of the year are gangbusters. People get money to put down on cars, etc., etc., etc. I guess the advertising is to get people to think about using their Christmas bonuses for a new car, even if they won’t be putting it under the tree.
Now that makes sense.
I did, this year. It was a car that we’d looked at, discussed at length and that my husband knew that I liked, in a color that he knew I liked, and with more options than I’d ever mentioned that I wanted, and it was delivered to our house on Christmas morning by the friend who had hidden it in her garage after my husband took possession of it from the dealership.
We were probably going to buy the car within the next few weeks anyway, but it was a very very pleasant Christmas surprise.
My wife and I once bought a car on Christmas Eve, does that count?
(No surprise, we just needed a new car and 12/24 was the day where we found a good deal for it.)
My supervisor’s husband gave his mother a new Jaquar for Xmas this year.
It happens. My dad gave my mom a new BMW one year. However, the color she wanted was hard to find and we ended up ordering one and just giving her the brochure.
I almost got a new Jeep Grand Cherokee this year. Then my husband decided that, “Hey honey, here’s a car loan for Christmas” wasn’t the best gift. We we’re holding off buying it until spring anyway in case they found any major issues with the new model. I bet I get it as an anniversary gift. Um…surprise?
My uncle bought my aunt a cadillac once. Had a big ribbon put on the top of it too and drove it home for her.
It wasn’t Xmas though.
My neighbor bought his wife a Ford Explorer for her 40th birthday. He didn’t consult her on it at all, and she has never been keen on the color.
My husband bought me a 1994 Suburban this summer. Ok, I approved of it, we needed it and it was such a price we couldn’t pass it up. I loves it.
