Wow! With Baker’s help, we were able to close the story out with few unanswered questions left over.
Sure, we probably still missed some loose ends, but the mystery is solved and the story ends in a strong way. I let the villians live, like Sci-Fi so often does. They don’t have to come back, but they are available for the next story. As is Corner’s fascinating storms idea and Jeff’s sentient plants. Those ideas are just too cool to not use again.
Thank you! All of you are very talented in your own right. Together, we made an exciting team. Looking forward to the next one.
Go ahead and speculate or offer suggestions for the next instalment in this thread.
I love these stories, and I want to take this opportunity to thank the SDMB and of course the Chicago Reader for letting us the space to play like this. Thank you, thank you!
I already miss having new episodes to look forward to (twitch, twitch), but we can always go on later. With the holidays coming up I’d wait until after Christmas, when it’s possible workloads may be more slack, and give us time to rest and think up new ideas.
If I had any ideas for the next one, I’d say have it start a little further down the road than the time that was between #2 and #3. At least five standard years or more. I’d like to see children again, as we glimpsed in #1. They could be of any sentient species, although I imagine the human and Xavvian would be most prominent. If we went back to Valis 5 we might see kids from Victor and Kathy, or Victor’s niece. Tobe and M’Kayla are parents, and Corianav may have to be a mother, what’s a Xavvian child like?
And I really wanted it to end with Robert and M’Artel, since they began the story all the way back in the first post. In the doc I’ll make, I’ll put your post in between Baker’s and mine. That way, we get the closure the story needed. With M’Artel and Robert!
As far as I knew, y’all were gone, busy with work and stuff. :smack:
It’s a good point Jeff makes. I had assumed no one but Baker and I were still in the story. Hopefully, no one feels left out, my apologies if so. Still, we’ll have a new story in a coiuple of months. Lots of room there!
And just to say again, good work everybody. This is loads of fun. Now that we have a new format down, with a guiding thread, I think the stories will be even more focused and cleaner. Not as in PG cleaner, but rather, as in more unified in theme, like our last two were.
Making this one a mystery seemed to make all of us work a little harder. And the talent was up to the task.
Cool game scenario Lute! Kind of bittersweet, playing with old teammates now gone. I wonder how long it took Kark to set up that holo, and who had played with him before Zora and Sten came by. Do you think he might have been the only “live” player?
I want to hear more about your plants next time! Do they live only in Forsetti, or are there colonies on other worlds I wonder? Man, imagine having to keep your voice down, in case the floweres were listening!
I’m dyin’ here! I never thought of anagrams in the names! I go more for for the inside jokes. My favorite, although achingly obvious, was the superstition Zora was passing on to the cadets, about how it was bad luck to wear red clothing on one’s first visit to any planet.
Wonderful story ending. Xol is too powerful to imprison or kill, and Cowd threw his hat into a ring of his choosing, so he’s stuck.
I love the interactions and differing story styles everyone presents. I also love the open ends and new ideas that we have to play with. It makes for a rich universe.
I look forward to starting a new story after the holidays.
