Thanks! Also, I somehow missed that they are the Wachowski sisters now. I thought Lana was a daughter or something of the original directors.
Yeah. Not sure if I should say The Matrix was made by the Wachowski brothers or something else.
I also noted that only one was credited on this new one (Lana).
I was bummed to not see Laurence Fishburne in the trailer.
The second and third had a bunch of “thinks it’s smarter than it is” stuff and a sometimes nonsensical plot, so they’re not good for those among other reasons. But I think also the first movie was pretty cyberpunk, the next ones not so much. So this at least seems like a return to form. The trailer makes it look good, I’ll wait and see before getting too excited.
@Whack-a-Mole Lilly apparently had a conflict but “gave her blessing.”
On the other hand, in 2015: Lilly Wachowski called a return to The Matrix a “particularly repelling idea in these times” when studios preferred to green-light sequels, reboots, and adaptations over original material
I enjoyed the Matrix sequels though I admit a lot of the criticisms are justified. One problem was they put key plot points in things like the Animatrix or the video games. Tie in material should be supplementary to the main story, not part of it,
And it’s this kind of hyperbolic garbage that does make it seem like it was fashionable to hate on the sequels. They can’t just be poor films, no they have to be the worst thing in all of history!
I’d love to see the Wachowski 's re-make “Johnny Mnemonic”.
Such an awful movie but so much potential as a great cyberpunk movie.
Morpheus is in the movie, but the character is played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen, who is 35 years old. That’s reasonably close to Fishburne’s age when the first film was released. Reeves and Moss, however, are apparently playing older versions of their characters. I don’t know how the film is going to reconcile this, but I guess we’ll find out.
I think they should make a prequel. The computer is a lot more pri9mitive. The virtual reality environment is more basic, using wire frame graphics.
They could call it The Dot Matrix.
I agree. I am heading to the theater for this one. Some movies just really, really benefit from a big screen. This is likely to be one of those.
(I.e. “Dinner with Andre” absolutely does not need a big screen…“Star Wars” does.)
I do not hate the last two Matrix movies because it is “fashionable” to do so. Watched them both and hated, hated, hated them. These were possibly the worst movies I have ever seen, and I’ve seen Eraserhead. I demand compensation for my wasted money and time.
BattleZone, The Motion Picture! Or Tempest?
The third movie was really bad in major chunks with a few moments. I like the second movie a lot once they leave Zion and its huge rave party.
The first one is amazing and my wife and I watched it a few months ago and it holds up. It’s awesome.
I will see the fourth one day of release and I believe with David Mitchell* co-writing this one, it could be great. Wachowski’s(well, one of them) did not do a good job writing sequels to their own movie.
*novelist, not panel show comedian
I completely don’t remember this. Are you sure about this part of it. I thought a deal was cut.
Movies only here for me. Unsure of any video game stuff.
In the movie, they agree to let humans who awaken choose to leave the Matrix and live in the “real world”. This is an agreement reached, I think, with Neo and the uber-computer that runs the whole thing. Neo kill Smith, permanently, and is taken away by the machines. Dead? Yes…if they made no sequel. It is possible the robots saved him.
The Matrix is rebooted for a 7th(I also think) time.
The Architect tells the Oracle that peace will last as long…as it can. They will honor the deal struck by Neo. Sati, the little girl, asked if we will ever see Neo again and the Oracle said, “You know, I think we will.”
End of movie.
Are we sure Neo is dead at the end of part 3? I remember his body being carried off by the machines, but don’t recall it being said that he died.
As for how/when the new movie takes place - maybe the Architect lied? Maybe the only way the machines could save Neo was to put him back in the tub of goo? Maybe there is a “Matrix within a Matrix” thing going on? Since Neo now looks like John Wick, can he bring back his dog? We’ll have to wait until December to find out.
Trinity appears to be a program in the new movie. There’s a shot in the trailer where Neo can see the code running down her face.
Fer sure a deal was cut.
Agent Smith had become a virus running rampant and the Architect could not stop it. Neo basically told the Architect he’d stop Smith if the Architect didn’t wipe out Zion.
The Architect agreed since Smith would wipe everything out and no one but Neo could hope to stop him. Neo stopped Smith and the Architect said, at the very end of the movie, that he would uphold his side of the bargain.
Right, but it was the picking 21 survivors part that I don’t remember. If I recall, the machines simply stop attacking Zion and leave everyone still alive alone.
That happens the very first time Neo meets the Architect in the special room (while Trinity is falling out of a window escaping an agent).
The Architect explains the whole deal to Neo. He can choose one of two doors. One he picks 21 people to repopulate Zion and save the human race. The other, he can save Trinity but doom the human race.
Neo chooses to save Trinity.
That does not save Zion though. What saves Zion is the Architect knowing Agent Smith virus will destroy the Matrix. Later, Neo finds his way back to the Architect and makes a deal…he’ll stop Smith if the Architect lets Zion survive. And that is what happens.
To be clear since I think you’re talking past each other. The 21 people saved and destruction of Zion was the deal the Architect offers Neo. Neo REJECTED that offer and saves Trinity. The trilogy ends with Zion safe and the Matrix still running. Here’s the final words on the future:
Oracle: Well, now, ain’t this a surprise.
Architect: You’ve played a very dangerous game.
Oracle: Change always is.
Architect: Just how long do you think this peace is going to last?
Oracle: As long as it can.
{Architect starts walking away}
Oracle: What about the others?
Architect: What others?
Oracle: The ones that want out.
Architect: Obviously, they will be freed.
Oracle: I have your word?
Architect: What do you think I am? Human?
