A new podcast from a couple SDMB members

Though I am usually loathe to pimp/market myself, I thought I’d post this in case any of you are interested (I got mod approval to do so):

Fellow SDMB-er pricciar and I have started a podcast, Pop Culture Continuum. It’s available for free download on iTunes. If you don’t like iTunes, you can download or stream directly from the website in the first link.

The first 2 episodes are up right now – we started kind of rough, but are getting the hang of it as time goes on. We compare something from pop culture old and new – the first episodes are Tim Burton’s Batman vs. The Dark Knight Rises and Rush’s albums Signals vs. Clockwork Angels, and future episodes will include Revolver vs. Skylarking, The Mary Tyler Moore Show vs. 30 Rock, Spinal Tap vs. Iron Maiden, Leo McCarey vs. Wes Anderson, Soap vs. Arrested Development, Fear of Flying vs. 50 Shades of Grey and all kinds of other crap. I urge you to subscribe and leave positive feedback in the comments. You don’t even have to listen if you don’t want to. Just subscribe, and please don’t leave negative comments (it hurts the ratings and makes it harder for strangers to find). We’ve recorded more than 2 months’ worth of episodes so far, and we’re getting better and more comfortable talking on mic as time goes on. Thanks!

The third episode (Mary Tyler Moore vs. 30 Rock) is available now.

I look forward to hearing what people here think of the show good or bad. I know there are others on here who have shows, and many others who listen to a wide variety of things. Pus, the famous Bob Ducca! (I think his username is FoieGrasIsEvil)

YaY for this. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve heard so far.

I’m listening to the current (MTM vs. 30 Rock) episode and so far, so good. Keep it up.

BTW guys, re: the rabbit joke on MTM: it’s just an example of the standard 70s trope that sexually active woman + any mention of a rabbit = sidesplitting humor.

Thanks - I really wondered if that was all there was to the joke. Not up to the level of writing on the rest of that episode of MTM.

I’m going to subscribe now. I need something to fill in between This American life episodes while I’m walking!

Cool! Just don’t expect us to be anywhere near Ira Glass’s level.

Well I get the difference between produced radio and podcasts of guys talking. I’m looking forward to hearing what you have to say. After all, I READ what you guys have to say every day!

Thanks for listening, Ellen, sco3tt, and Sleeps! Awesome! Let us know what you think.

Thanks, sco3tt, yeah your explanation makes the most sense. I was hoping there was more to the story than that. But, oh well, not every joke can be timelessly hilarious!

Also, I like to think of John as a West Coast Ira Glass. And, me? I’m like a guy who won the lottery and wasted all his winnings on movie posters. If only we could get a free version of Sarah Vowell.

I guess I’m like a West Coast Ira Glass if he had a high school education, no real cultural insight, and he added a “fuck” to every sentence he uttered.

If I am reading Wikipedia correctly. Ira Glass dropped out of middle school to fight in the Crimean War.
