The problem with this is that gun-deaths aren’t seen as necessarily bad in and of themselves.
To many gun-control advocates, *all *“gun deaths” are bad - be it a suicide, accident, or a crook getting shot by a home owner during a break-in.
To many gun supporters, there are “good deaths” and “bad deaths.” i.e., shooting a would-be rapist dead, as opposed to the accidental kid-plays-with-guns-and-dies tragedy.
So getting them to agree to “reduce all deaths” isn’t an agreeable starting point. They might agree to reduce all *bad *deaths by 25%. But why would they ever agree to reduce the rapist-or-robber-or-hijacker-gets-shot deaths? Those are *good *deaths, in their view.
“The German EOSINT M270 Direct Metal 3D Printer that created the all-metal 1911 cost Solid Concepts $600k. Argon and nitrogen gas, cutting and hand tools added another $400k to the bill. The printer disgorged the 1911’s parts in 34 hours using stainless steel, Inconel (extractor, firing pin, hammer, hammer strut, grip safety, main spring guide rod, sear and disconnector) and SLS Nylon 12 Powder (grips). (The main spring, grip screws and bushings, and trigger stirrup are the only pieces that weren’t 3D printed.) The completed gun required about a week-and-a-half (part time) to hand finish and assemble.”
So yeah, I’d say we’re still one hell of a big hypothetical from Lumpy’s “anyone with ~$5000.00 dollars can buy a machine that will turn out fully functional automatic rifles. Making guns becomes as simple and easy for unskilled people as making bathtub gin”.
Still, and as I said, I’m allowing that for the sake of argument…but as I also asked before “How are you going to get the ammo? You can’t print propellant”
It hasn’t happened, but it’s not from a lack of trying by the Democrats. It’s obvious from some in this thread that Democrats want to ban/confiscate firearms. They just can’t keep enough seats in the various legislatures to make their dreams come true.
doorhinge,
Could you cite where Democrats/Liberals want to ban/confiscate ALL guns ?
Also why it is that when the lefties want to change a law even a little bit ( whatever law that might be ), The Righties start screaming slippery slope. But when The Righties want to change some law a little bit, there never seems to be any slippery slope-cries from the Left. Can you explain this ?
Bricker says that the 2nd amendment won’t be repealed. He’s correct in that. What worries me (and him, I am sure) is 2nd amendment being ignored by the legislature and later such laws being validated by a liberal Supreme Court. That can definitely happen.
Well, the Righties are using a government registry to round up people who registered for DACA.
Provided names and addresses so they’re easy to find.
Classic case of projection.
So, you aren’t worried about 2A being modified, but you are worried about it being ignored and reinterpreted in such a way that it is effectively repealed?
Personally, I think that modification of the amendment is more likely than ignoring it, but either way, it is the gun advocates shoving it in the face of the public and claiming that we can’t do anything about gun violence as long as that 200+ year old phrasing remains intact.
So, with as sure as you are that 2A won’t be modified, why are you not worried about what you claim to be worried about, that you will pis off the pubic enough that they will ignore and reinterpret it?
“Public” doesn’t get to ignore and reinterpret it. Legislature and Supreme Court do. That is why legislature and Supreme Court need to be kept out of liberal control.
You right-wing gun nuts have just one reaction to mass murder: all you mass murder opponents can fuck the fuck off. This is the price of freedom. 2nd Amendment 4evar! Get used to more mass murder, libtards, because there’s nothing you can do about it, fags.
Where’s the NRA on the mass murder issue? They’re incognito, waiting for this to blow over, because they have nothing to say. They want the status quo. Any regulation has to be dismissed, because that sensible regulation is just the first step. So mass murder forever.
Where is your outrage at our culture of violence? Its not guns that are spurring these spree shootings; its our violent culture. Where is the outrage at video games that allow gleeful mass murder? Violent film and tv that teach us killing is the proper response to frustration? To really deal with these issues than both the 1st and the 2nd amendment need modification.
I know you don’t know this too well, being a russian operative, but they should have taught you that the US elects its leaders.
Now you are used to the oligarchs appointing leaders where you are from, so I can see how you would get confused on it.
In the US, the public elects its legislature. We also elect our president, who appoints people to the supreme court.
By fighting a losing war, gun owners, a minority or americans, are turning the majority against them.
That has consequences in a democracy. If you want to keep it out of liberal control, then you should work with those who wish to see fewer fatalities and injuries due to gun abuse, rather than get the public to vote in liberals to enact the legislation and appint the sc justices that will reduce the gun fatalities and injuries.
You keep telling yourself that. There are many more gun owners than you think, especially in big cities. They just don’t register their guns. Good luck trying to take guns away from the people. Good luck finding anyone willing to do so.
Who said anything about taking guns away from people? Why you always jump on that from what starts as banning devices that make a weapon into an auto-fire? If you don’t think that people will stand for confiscation, then why do you always think that that’s where it will end up any time anyone suggests any sort of control to reduce gun violence? It’s very poor logic, and shows that you not only are not arguing in good faith, you don’t even know how to argue in good faith.
Any restriction whatsoever is met with this “Oh try taking the guns away from people!” every single time. It gets old. And it doesn’t just get old with me, it gets old with all the people who vote. The people who look at the gun violence issue, and wonder why anything can’t be done about it. The people who are told sneeringly that nothing can be done about it.
Like Okrahoma, you don’t seem to understand that the government is answerable to the people. You seem to think that somehow or other, no matter how much of the public you piss off, the public will always stand behind you and your hobby. He has the excuse that he’s not from here, and is over in russia getting paid by his masters to stir shit up over here. You’re just fucking stupid.
Someone posted a YouTube vid on how to make one of those rapid fire thingies. Out of easily available and legal material. Banning them will make us feel good but won’t accomplish anything.
