A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010 re-imagining)....

I just saw the trailer to the upcoming “Re-Imagining” of the film that made New Line Cinema what it was, Wes Craven’s infamous classic opus “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, but updated with “edgier” stars…

No, just…NO!, there are some films that just can’t be remade, that shouldn’t be remade, and NOES is one of those films

Error 1; everything has a newer, slicker, “shinier” look to it, it’s become less grainy and gritty, moister, and more hypersaturated, the gritty, dirty, grimy and grainy look of NOES was part of it’s memorable look and feel

Error 2; it’s being directed by Michael “I’m researching how to blow up an explosion” Bay, so, more than likely, the movie’s budget will consist of 99 44/100% pyrotechnics, 'splosions a’plenty, characterization?, plot?, compelling characters? what are those things? they just get in the way of more explosions!

Error 3; There Can Be Only One Freddy Krueger, and that is the Freddy Krueger immortalized by Robert Englund, NuFreddy looks like the love-child of Leatherface and Michael Myers, (facial scarring is flatter and looks more like he’s wearing a mask of human skin) and his voice lacks menace, Englund gave Freddy a menacing growl, NuFreddy sounds muffled and slightly nasally, and has a slight southern drawl, like Leatherface, Englund also gave Freddy a…razor sharp (sorry, couldn’t resist  ) wit, even in the original NOES, there were the inklings of a truly twisted sense of humor from Mr. K

Error 4; there appears to be a swimming pool party scene, like in that rumored NOES 2 film that actually doesn’t exist, a scene where it is rumored that Freddy gained entry to the real world, and thus broke one of the laws of his character, he’s a dream demon and cannot exist in reality, thankfully yhat scene, and the aforementioned nonexistent NOES 2 does not exist, or that would have truly screwed up continuity in the Nightmareverse

this “re-imagining” of NOES looks bad, really bad, and I actually liked Freddy Vs. Jason, as well as Jason X (c’mon, it was a COMEDY you all know that, right?), I’m not opposed to a good bad movie (no self respecting MSTie is…) but the re-imagined NOES just looks cheesy

Next thing you know, they’ll remake Jaws and The Exorcist.

Pretty much evry other horror show has already been remade, right?

I think it looks good. It’s got Jackie Earle Haley in it and he’s awesome, though he does kinda sound wrong. Freddy doesn’t sound like that, damnit.

Also, it’s not directed by Michael Bay. The director is Samuel Bayer, director of such movies as… well, he’s mostly directed music videos, actually. That’s generally a bad sign.

After they run out they’ll HAVE to do new st…

what? What’s “meets”-remakes? How do you merge Jaws and The Exorcist… CURSE THEM!

Hmm, I DID get a vague “Rorshack-y” feel from this rendition of Freddy, but heck, even Rorshack was more gravelly than NuKrueger

Still not looking forward to it, still looks bad to me, even though Bay may not be directing, he’s still not a good addition…

Directed by a music video director, GAAH! DO-NOT-WANT!

Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze both got there start in music videos, so I wouldn’t discount that career path completely.

I think this remake looks great.

The trailer looks pretty good to me. A nod to the bathub scene and a nod to the Exorcist. Krueger’s voice does give you that feeling you got when Mel Blanc died and someone else started doing the Looney Tunes voices. It’s just not the same.

I can see it opening big. $25-$30 million weekend.

WHAT??

Hollywood has run out of ideas. I’m convinced of it now.

Am I the only one who saw the title of this thread and thought of Freddie Krueger versus David Bowman and HAL 9000?

Pretty much, apparently. Why can’t they do something new?

Chris Farley voice That would be AWESOME!!!

What’s it rated?
It seems that all horror movies are rated PG13 now, so the kiddies can still go. Whatever. Sneaking in just isn’t that hard.

I’m pretty sure it’s R. Btw, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre films are sure R!

As was the Friday the 13th remake. It had more gore and nudity than a slasher film has had in years.

OK, I just watched the trailer and I’m going to have to disagree with you.

Everything in the original looked gritty, grimy and dirty because the thing was a low budget cheeseball movie. The fact it became a classic was incidental. So of course the new one looks slicker. Cheap movies from 2010 look slicker than cheap movies from 1984.

Meh, we haven’t seen enough of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy to get a real feel for how he’ll do it. We got what, one line from that trailer? And another line or two while he was human. I’ll wait to pass judgment. But I do admit, I wish they’d gone with Billy Bob Thornton like the original rumors said.

Never saw NOES 2, but he jumped into reality at the end of the first one too. It’s kinda his thing.

I think the trailer looks decent enough, no worse than any of the truly awful Nightmare sequels that other people wisely steered me away from, and it could even be good. The Friday the 13th remake was awesome and this is done by the same people. Of coruse, I’ve always been a Jason guy (and he won FvJ, so there’s that too).

I can’t wait to see this! I just saw the trailer yesterday and I was thrilled.

Of course I love the original NoES and have all the DVDs and everything, but that movie and its successors weren’t perfect. I love the idea of remaking any of them because the theme, the idea, the possibilities were truly awesome even if the movies were not.

I don’t get the concept that remaking a movie or creating sequels/prequels to a movie has a negative effect on the original. If somebody wants to stick with the original and never go beyond it, that’s fine. Do that. I’m excited to see what 25 years of film advancements can do to make this story more exciting.

From what I’ve heard, the Krueger face we’ve seen on the trailer may not be the way it is on the movie. They’re still “tweaking” it, apparently. I’ll give it a shot in any case.

I wonder what Freddy personality they’ll go with: the grim one from the original, or the wisecracker that became so popular in the sequels. Either is possible.

It looks like the scarring is what it would look like if someone was really burned. That seems like a nice touch of realism. Besides, Any movie with Clancy Brown is alright with me.
