A phrase not used lately in America

I can see this topic possibly going in a lot of directions. Mods, please put where appropriate.

Something I noticed. I am sure I am not the only one. But there was a phrase used here in the states with some regularity for several years. In about the last 10 to 12 months or so almost no one says it anymore. I’d really like to bring it back and hear it more often now.

“America. Love it or Leave it”.

Here in Britain, we prefer “Like It or Lump It”.

Or if you hate it, you can stay and try to change it for the better! I think that’s actually considered patriotic BTW.

You’re one of those pinko commie liberals…ain’t ya?

The traditional comeback bumper sticker was: America - change it or lose it.

And you’re right, I haven’s seen either in a good long while. I approve of that. The original, especially, seemed to be a smug little flat snit-fit.

I’m assuming this is some kind of slap at the Bush fans (or, conversely, Obama-non-fans)? Note the time frames referenced: “several years” vs. “the past 10 to 12 months.”

Maybe the OP is trying to make the point that the Dems don’t tend to respond to criticism by insinuating that anyone who disagrees with them should just get the hell out of the country?

Not sure, but that’s all I can make of it. (Actually, I don’t remeber the phrase “love it or leave it” being particularly current after the Vietnam era, but I will readily concede that that may just be a geographic thing. I’m in the Northeast.)
