While E has fewer dangerous effects than, say coke or hammer, it will still mess you up badly. I bring up something that was pointed out to me about drugs. You never know how pure they are. While you may roll 4 tabs of E at a rave to get you all fired, the same four at a different rave might be much more potent. It could be GHB or DXM. It could be speed. You could easily kill yourself if you were used to a 40% pure tab, and rolled 4 80% tabs. Very bad. Keep all this in mind when doing drugs. OR better yet, don’t do them!
I realize this is MPSIS, and not GD but I’ve seen a few statements to which I feel a need to respond:
So alchohol, marijuana, opium, psylobicin, etc. are acceptable? They are all naturally occuring. Do you object to the idea of altering one’s conciousness by any external means or just by ‘man made’ chemicals? What differentiates the two?
I doubt it has anything to do with being from the ‘most powerful economies’. The history of drug use is almost as old as civilization itself. The Columbia Encyclopedia history states that the European and Sumerians used opium as far back as 4000 BCE. Others have theorized that the earliest use can be pushed back to 6000 BCE on the basis of certain pictograms. Beer was brewed in ancient Egypt and some Sumerian records referring to beer are 6000 years old. Wine jars dating from 5400 to 6000 BCE have been unearthed in Egypt.
It seems that humans have been actively attempting to find ways of altering their conciousness from the beginning of their ability to do so. I do not advocate that anyone ‘do drugs’, but to try and explain or account for the use of drugs in our culture without recognizing the extremely long history is short-sighted at best. There appears to be a very, very powerful urge within humanity to experiment with altered conciousness. I don’t see how the clever riposte of “Just say no!” is going to significantly effect a trait that has been with us for millenia.
It also seems somewhat simplistic to lump all drug users together, attributing one over-riding cause for their use of drugs. Some people are using drugs in an obvious attempt to seek an escape from something. It may be the pain of their existence or something more esoteric. While I don’t necessarily think that using drugs in this sense is the smartest of all possible responses, it’s a common theme and the only one which might possibly be countered by the above condemnations of drug use.
However, other motivations do come into play. For some people the use of drugs is an attempt to alter their conciousness in the search for something greater than themselves. One only has to think about how many religious rituals center around the use of mind-altering substances to realize that it’s a significant factor in some people’s choice. Others simply want the experience of having their conciousness altered in some specific, or even not so specific, manner.
And other times they’re superficial soundbites that give the appearance of a total lack of all the factors that make up the subject. But opinions vary, I suppose.
You misunderstood. ANY form of brain-stimulated pleasure gained by imbibing chemicals is in my mind a bad and unnecessary thing. You do not need this to be happy.
Laughter. Entertainment. Sex. Watching children at play. Love. Video Games. A massage. Sport. Dancing.
All these things are much safer and more naturally occurring forms of happiness and pleasure. I’d much rather everyone did those instead of needing a drug to passively, and dangerously, do it for them.
As pointed out above, you are getting very little MDMA in a tablet. You say you trust the person that supplies you. Do you trust the person that s/he gets it from? Or any of the other people that it goes through?
if you are going to do drugs, you’re going to do drugs. I doubt that many warnings on a messageboard are going to have an effect.
I smoke, and I drink. I know the effects. I still do it. I’m careful what I do when I drink. However, I never take my life into my own hands when I drink.
Alcohol is more readily available than E. but the lethal dose is a lot lower than E. Thats why Alcohol is legal, whereas E is illegal.
Jesus Christ! How the hell can teenagers even afford this? Shit. I can buy 3 or 4 bottles of good scotch for that kind of money, and that’ll last 6 or 8 weeks.
That’s it. Your mother and I are cutting your allowances.
Yikes! I did a rough calculation and from the ages of 14-20, I spent about $30,000 on partying, drugs, alcohol and ciggies. Do you know how much money I’d have today (at age 26) if I’d invested that money? If so, please don’t tell me because I’m too stupid (probably all the partying) to figure it out myself, and the knowledge would only drive me back to drugs.
Actually, the guy I get it from gets it straight from a cook. He does mostly straight meth, but recently has found MDMA to be more lucrative. As to whether or not I really trust his abilities as a chemist, I’ve never been disappointed and tested it before I took it :o). He’s even got his own mark and is quite infamous around here. As to taking E to be happy…um, no. I take E because there’s not much else to do around here sometimes. I also play football, I’m also a thespian, I love my job, I love my school and I love my family. I do not take E to escape anything. I take it because it’s a really great way to have some fun for a few hours with some friends. I know this probably doesn’t make sense to many people, but don’t knock it till you rock it :o). Kidding, of course. But I didn’t take it to fit in, I didn’t take it to escape the “harsh reality of life” or anything, I took it because I had done some research, I knew a bunch of people who’d been taking it for a while with nothing but good things to say about it, and I wanted to expand my horizons.
Relax, tater, that calculation never works. Between the ages of 14 and 27 (or now) I’ve spent no money at all on drugs or cigs, very little on partying and a moderate amount on alcohol. And I’m still broke.
Now wait a second…drugs can’t be stupid. They are inanimate. They have no brains with which to be stupid. Therefore, you must be implying that the people who use the drugs are stupid…and that just isn’t fair.
So, are we just reverting to elementary school “poo-poo” insults? Fine, two can play at this game…
Yes, you realized our secrets. I run guns for a little green lining. But I also don’t do drugs.
Remember, these are the kids who will spend sixty bucks on rave pants that won’t even keep them warm if they are out in the cold. Some of them get cash by working hard, others from their parents, and some get it from selling hash.
Again, the best way to not get addicted is to NOT DO THEM.
Plenty of horrible situations arise from sex and love. Video games arent very healthy either… your eyes werent made to stare at a screen all day (cough as Im sitting in front of my computer…)… TV’s emit radiation, so being too close to a TV playing video games or watching a program can be dangerous if done too often. I sprained my ankle dancing once… and most of the E horror stories you hear about result from dumb kids dancing around all night with no water… And sports? Oh my. How many NFL players are out with injuries? Worse yet, look at the NHL. Think back to the last time you wiped out hard core playing basketball. OUCH! Think wrestling. Sports AND Entertainment… Didnt pay off for Owen Hart, did it? Steve Austin was out with injuries for a year. Mick Foleys missing teeth, Terri Funk has no cartlidge in his knees.
Everything comes at a price and moderation is neccesary for -everything-. Its almost impossible to live life completely “safe”, but if you could, the quality of life you would experience would hardly be worth the specially formulated food you would have to ingest on a daily basis.
I personally havent done E, LSD, DXM, K, etc etc…
I -have- smoked pot. I -have- gotten drunk. Of the two, I’d say that marijuana was, hands down, the more positive experience.
Almost anyone you ask concerning those two drugs will tell you that marijuana is the lesser of two evils, but alcohol still manages to remain legal. The unfortunate thing is that people are convinced alcohol remains legal because its somewhat safe. The truth is, alcohol remains legal because no one wants to contact every employee dealing with alcohol and explain to them that they’re out of a job. Corporate America is alot more important to your government than your liver is.
I’ve also seen arguments that “alcohol has been legal for such a long time and MDMA was immediately banned…” but ya know… Opium used to be not only legal, but high class and somewhat encouraged. Cocaine used to be legal as well, I believe.
Just because its legal, doesnt mean its a good idea.
And just because its illegal where I live to smoke pot or engage in oral sex, doesnt mean Im gonna sell my bong or tell him to stop =)
Malkavia, I think you missed the point. Which is you don’t need drugs to get your happiness. I wasn’t suggesting everyone follow my rules, or that all those things I listed don’t have their flaws, but they are at least natural, and readily available, and in moderation are some of the best things about being human. (Except maybe video games)
I don’t like drugs because they affect the mind. That’s what scares me, and why I find them distasteful. They alter your personality in some artificially induced way.
