I am so happy!! I just found out today that a poem that I wrote is gonna be in a book! I’m not being paid or anything but hey :). ::does a little happy dance:: The book is called Time after Time and its a compilation of poetry from around the world. For anyone intrested here’s the poem I submitted Nothing Is Forever
A day will not last forever
It will soon give out to night
the sun will rise and set
as darkness replaces the light
How complex life can be
as people live from day to day
never stopping to look
at people you meet along the way
The stars and moon will come out
the crickets begin their song
the morning dew begins to form
but not even this will last for long
Another day will come though
as people wake from where they lay
even the night isnt forever
but it is as important as the day
Damn good job TS!! I myself have tried to submit poems to magazines for publishing, ones I have thought wernt even campy or goofy/modern like so many I see. I got one rejection letter with my poem all corrected and covered in red like a graded paper… I quit after that in embarassment. It was the same mag my father had been published in several times, I hid it from him so he wouldnt find out how bad I was… L
Your poem is as good as I have seen! You DESERVE the recognition. BE proud. Your one of the lucky few. …deservidly so from what I see. Classicly formed.
It hurts to be the asshole sometimes, but I’m wondering did the publisher of this book happen to offer you the opportunity to own your own copy to the tune of fifty some-odd dollars?
I myself once sent a poem to one of these raconteurs. It was flattering to be chosen. They sent me letters on real nice paper. And they sent me a brochure describing this book, telling me what a great gift it makes. Even then I didn’t tumble, though I did wonder with such a huge book who, if anybody, was being turned down?
I cut wise before I let my mother buy this beast. I’d suggest you do the same.
Damn it you just ruined my happy mood lol… It says I dont have to buy the book but it will be published. And seeing something I wrote being published would be cool as hell. I didn’t really plan on buying it just browsing for it through the bookstores to make sure my name was in it :)well actually I did but now I’m doubting it. your right though it really is nice paper
I didn’t know if letting it slowly dawn, like it did for me, would be more or less painful. And unfortunately, you’re not liable to ever see it in a book store. It’ll be sold on a direct-to-sucker basis. I almost talked a reference librarian into buying a copy for our library. Wouldn’t that have been an albatros around my neck?
Awww damn… I figured I wasn’t good enough to get published in a legitimate publication. Now I’m all disappointed and stuff. Someone wanna cheer me up? I think I’ll go read that thread where Wally attempts to have cyber sex again. That should make me laugh
Congratulations!! I had the same thing happen to me when I was 14. One of my poems was getting published, and it was, but they sent me an order form for the $50 book. My mom refused to buy it.
However, I just had two poems published in my campus literary magazine, so there is hope. Your poem was beautiful and if you try other outlets, I’m sure you’ll get it published legitimately!! Good luck!
Even if it is being published by a not quite legit press, it’s still a very lovely poem. Please share more of your work with us whenever you get the urge. Plus, it’s almost my anniverary and I need something to “borrow” to write on the card.
Talkinsquirrel, whether the offer to publish your poem was legit or not, doesn’t matter a lick to me. I thought it was beautiful! And doesn’t just posting it here make it a “published” work?
I’d ask you to write one for me, but I don’t think you could ever outdo the one you did for fishe - that one rocked! (lucky girl :))
That is an excellent poem you have there…I’ve done some poetry myself, and that far outdoes what I’ve written. Keep at it, you definitely have talent in writing poetry.
It does sound like the anthology is one of the scam ones. I find those sort of things (the book, not your poem) scummy as hell, since they prey on young writers who think they’re finally getting published. Unfortunately, they’ll accept anything sent to them, and I do mean anything.
Better to get a bunch of rejections from legitimate publishers.
My love for you is unending
forever strong, never bending
I need you in my life baby
Im so glad youre my lady
No one can keep us apart
youll never leave my heart
I want to keep you in my arms
to keep you safe from any harm
My mind is always on you
there is nothing i wont go through
to make your every wish come true
You make my life complete
youre so funny
so beautiful
so loving
so sweet
No matter where I go
No matter what I do
My mind is on you
And my heart is always with you
Forever and Forever
always will we be together
No one can keep us apart
my love for you
overflows my heart
and that will never change
You are my baby
And I am yours
We belong to each other
you hold my heart in you hand
I love you more than I thought
I could ever love anyone
