On preview, I see brianjedi beat me to these answers.

Didn’t read the other responses.

  1. What age are the horses in the Kentucky Derby?

Three, right?

  1. What are the three races in the Triple Crown, in correct order?

Um…Belmont Stakes is one, and then there’s some other race, and then there’s the Kentucky Derby. Yeah. Okay, I don’t know.

  1. What’s a gelding?

A neutered male horse. I totally knew this one!

  1. What is Colonel Sanders’s first name?

Fred?

  1. How many “secret herbs and spices” does KFC use?

97?

  1. How many NCAA men’s basketball championships has the University of Kentucky won?

42?

  1. Who is the majority whip of the US senate (also Kentucky’s senior senator)?

I really OUGHT to know this. But I don’t. (One of my senators is the minority whip, though. That probably doesn’t count for anything, huh?)

  1. Have you ever heard of Ale-8-1?

Er, no.

I’m actually quite surprised to hear that. I don’t know which one–I was on a bus trip from New York to Memphis, and all I remember is that the driver stopped and told us we couldn’t get off the bus, then went and got himself a frickin’ Egg McMuffin.

Jim Beam!

I’m sorry - what was the question?

Three, I think.

Derby, Preakness, Belmont

A very bad investment, stud-wise.

Harland, or maybe Harlan.

If I knew that, it wouldn’t be secret, would it?

I haven’t even the tiniest shade of a clue.

Mitch McConnell.

No. (And that’s a correct ansewer to your question, sir!)

So, that’s 2,3,7, and 8 right. 1 and 4 guessing. 5 and 6, no idea.
I’m from Long Island, New York, went to college upstate NY, and now live in Baltimore.

Nobody wants to take a shot at these?

I was born in Cleveland and lived in Northeast Ohio until I moved to Lafayette in 2001. My mother is a Kentucky native, but only lived in the state for a year or so (her father was a minister, and thus the family moved frequently).

  1. What age are the horses in the Kentucky Derby?

They’re three-year-olds.

  1. What are the three races in the Triple Crown, in correct order?

Kentucky Derby; Preakness (Maryland); Belmont Stakes (New York)

  1. What’s a gelding?

A castrated male horse.

  1. What is Colonel Sanders’s first name?

Harlan or Harland – I’d normally Google for the correct spelling, but I’m approaching this quiz as if I were taking a test in school.

  1. How many “secret herbs and spices” does KFC use?

Eleven, I think (I can hear a jingle in my head). If not 11, then seven.

  1. How many NCAA men’s basketball championships has the University of Kentucky won?

I believe it’s officially three, and that there was another one forfeited when it was learned that the Wildcats had used ineligible players. If I were on Millionaire and this question came up, I’d probably be using a lifeline.

  1. Who is the majority whip of the US senate (also Kentucky’s senior senator)?

I know that former major-league baseball pitcher Jim Bunning is one of your U.S. Senators, but I believe he’s the junior one. If given a multiple choice, I’d probably figure it out, but you can mark me wrong on this one.

  1. Have you ever heard of Ale-8-1?

No spoiler box needed to admit that I haven’t.

This was fun – if this thread succeeds, I may compose a quiz about either my state of birth or my adopted home.

I am from and in NJ, Born in NYC and I lived in sothern California for 3+ years.

Your Op Thread title is not provable. Tell me how Kentucky is the greatest state?
