Do you like Feuds that are easy? Or do you prefer Feuds that take a bit of thought? Feuds that are done in a few hours, vs Feuds that take days, and don’t always fill up? Do you like to Google answers, or simply guess or already know the most popular responses?
As the host and scorer, I prefer Feuds that are easy with less ambiguous answers, no “opinion” type answers, and no descriptive answers. Feuds that fill up in a few hours, with 50 players.
I like Feuds that are thoughtful, with as few conches as possible. Beyond that, I hope they fill up quickly because I’m always anxious to know how well (or not, usually) I did. Most of the time, I’ll just guess answers, resorting to Google or Wiki if I can’t think of anything at all.
I’d prefer not to have to resort to anything outside at all. Dead-easy ones like the current “complete the word” are OK every so often, but a little thought is better. Usually, though, if there’s more than one question I can’t answer off the top of my head, I’ll just sit it out.
I prefer having to think a bit, and I don’t mind occasionally having to look up an answer or two, so I went with choice #3.
However, I do occasionally skip Feuds, when I open them up, and see that it’s a topic of which I know so little that I’d have to look up at least half of the responses.
I chose 3 but I actually like variety: some quick and easy ones, some tricky but general knowledge ones, and some detailed ones which may require some googling. I tend to avoid feud topics if I can’t answer most questions from memory - I completely skipped the Texas one and had to use wikipedia a lot in the Indiana one (but learned lots about Indiana in the process) but I doubt that’s the case for the average US feuder.
While I usually play to win, often I’m happy just getting 10 shared answers. Sometimes I like to answer honestly even if that goes a little against the purpose of the game, and I always try to have fun - like in the latest one (I almost used “l” to complete every word but got stuck on -omb). I hit dead last once before, in biggirl’s “What do YOU call it?” feud because I answered truthfully.
I thought the one going on now (picking a letter to complete a word) was too fast and easy. I liked the Texas one, and things like that. When it takes a week to get even 40 players, I get disappointed, but those that are done in 3 hours (rare, I think) aren’t too fun, either.
Regardless, thanks for the effort of setting it up, tracking, and scoring these, Rebo.
I like easy, but that doesn’t mean no thought. I rather put my thought into what answer will be popular, than struggling to think of any answer at all.
The current one is a good example- I thought a lot about my answers, based on what others may do (which basically guarantees I’ll be last, of course.), while generating those answers was easy.
BUT. Anybody can start a feud if they want to and make it about whatever they want. Dolores Reborn is the only one who consistently takes the time to post and score them for our amusement. So I say the real answer is “Whatever Rebo wants to do is just fine with me, thanks.”
Yeah, variety is good. I don’t personally like the current one, because the questions just aren’t very interesting to me. But if other people prefer Feuds like this, it’s fair enough that there should be some from time to time. And I guess the simpler ones don’t tend to last very long.
I like thoughtful with googling if necessary… but a quickie(like the latest letters one) is fun occasionally but would hate it if they were all like that. I really try to just put the 1st answer that I think of and will rarely change it. I’ll only Google if I cant think of an answer or if I want to confirm spelling. I know I don’t thank Rebo enough for putting these up so Thank you, Thank you, Thank you… these feuds have become my favorite part of the SDMB.
I picked 2, but don’t mind googling an answer or two if they seem like things that most people would have a decent idea of. (I come up short on a lot of pop culture, for instance.)
Variety is good, but my favorites are the ones that make me think, and where there is are no obvious winning answers. I google a lot of answers, often even when something comes immediately to mind.
I like the ones with short factual answers that require a little thought (name a ___ ). I’m not a big fan of the opinion ones (What’s your favorite ____), so I’ll usually sit those ones out. I picked option 2 in the poll, although I could have gone with 3, depending on the definition of “if necessary”. My personal rule of thumb is if I need to check Wikipedia for more than 3 questions, I’ll skip the feud. (Although I just broke my rule in the Indiana feud, as I needed to look up 5 questions - and I came in first. Maybe I should stop thinking and just start Googling. Especially since I usually do really poorly in my own feuds - too much thinking while writing the questions)
The current fill-in-the-letter one is a fun change of pace, but I would get bored fast if they were all like that. I guess I like a mix of 1,2,&3.
And to echo everyone else, thank you, thank you, thank you, Rebo!!!
