A question about blackjack in Atlantic City Casinos

I went to The Borgata (sweet place btw) earlier this week and was playing some Blackjack. Well, the dealer had a ten showing and I’ve been taught to hit until you get twenty, twenty-one or bust because the dealer sure as shit has another ten underneath that ten and has at least twenty himself. That’s just the way I play. I will hit until I get twenty and get a push if the dealer has a ten as the face card. There are more tens in the deck than anything, especially a 6 deck shoe.

Now, I had seventeen and the dealer was about to hit the other guy next to me and I was like, “no, no, no, I want to hit that 17.” The dealer gave me the weirdest look and yelled out to the pit boss, “HITTING SEVENTEEN !” He hit me and I bust, but why did he yell that out? He acted as if I couldn’t possibly get a four.

This is bad advice. You should always stand on hard 17-20 in a multideck game. (Basic strategy) The dealer called it out so that you couldn’t dispute it afterwards:

“Why did you hit my 17??”
“Sir, you said ‘hit.’”
“No I didn’t! Nobody hits 17! Why would I hit 17? You should have known not to hit me! I want my money back!”

Off to the Game Room.
