A question about editing posts (to the administration)

I understand that the editing feature has been disabled at the SDMB because it was being abused by people who would go back and edit incriminating posts after others had replied, rendering confusion and mayhem upon the thread to later visitors.

One board I used to frequent gave the poster 30 minutes to edit posts before it was locked. This seemed like a kind of nice solution, since it gave the poster the ability to fix typos and grammatical errors, without the option to confuse the entire thread after many posts.

I’m wondering if the vB code has such a feature, and if so has it’s use ever been considered?

I’m well aware of the preview feature, but I think it would very nice to be able to look at the final formatted post and then have a brief period of time to edit it.

That kind of timing would take up computer resources which could be better used elsewhere. And sometimes replies com sooner than 30 minutes, making a post changing option within that time limit still open to abuse.

Thanks, Derleth, you’re correct.

We have problems enough with posting ONCE.

May I add the reminder that, if you find something about your post that you would like to edit, let a Moderator or Administrator know through email. For example, we can usually correct links that got goofed up, or obvious major typos (“OOps, I forgot the word ‘not’ in the sentence…”)
