You mean to tell me that I can’t edit my posts, that I have to make sure all grammer, splelling and punctuation is correct before I post or I am screwed?
Do the moderators, administrators edit for you here? (I am new BTW . . . ) If that is true, then I think I have died and gone to heaven.
(Crossing fingers that the word read is changed to to red in my previous post . . . )
Yes, preview is your friend.
On occassion if asked very nicely in an e-mail, but not necessarily over every little typo.
Why does Thread Starter say Arnold Winkelried on this?
And it also shows 17 replies, but I see only 3.
We split this out from one of the FAQ threads where you are specifically asked NOT to make posts.
For reasons I cannot explain, it picked up on the original thread starter and gave some ridiculous amount of replies and views. Go figure.

Well, a thread started by Arnie on the topic of editing posts, in ATMB, is gonna get a lot of views. (“What, are they allowing that now? Must see…”)
Perhaps not quite as many as when the most recent post is from Tuba though…
… which, of course, it no longer is…
Anyway, AladyLikeNoOther, the reason we’re not allowed to edit our posts is simple: That feature might entice people to change their minds about something they’ve written. This would be especially bad in such forums as the Pit or Great Debates. Since the feature can’t be turned on and off for an individual forum, it applies everywhere. [I think this was turned on at one point, but it was abused.]
Moderators and Administrators will edit your posts to fix such things as poor coding or a bad hyperlink. If you posted a link to a porn site, they’d probably leave the post but edit out the link. Also, if you accidentally put your own personal info in a post and want it removed, they will do that (if you ask nicely).
Actually, that’s not the reason. An edited post has a time and date stamp. The current software allows a time limit to editing, and other boards set it for 10 minutes to unlimited without any “confusion”. When the last version of software was installed, a great many features were turned off to try to speed up the board.
They may have been turned off to speed up the board, but they were also turned off because people were abusing them. Incidentally, there’s already a time limit on posting - you must wait 30 seconds before posting a second time. Presumably if one posted and immediately wanted to edit, he or she would have to wait anyway.
Whoops, I’m wrong. It’s a 60-second wait.
the 30 second wait is between searches.
grimpixie, the no editing rule has been in place here far longer than the lastest version of vB. It has been in place far longer than vB has been in place here. (It was in place at least as long ago as UBB, I don’t know about the AOL days.) The main reason is to keep people honest. Some features have been turned off to reduce strain, but the editing rule was not one. Html was another feature removed because of abuse.
dantheman, there’s a difference between a time limit for editing your post and a time between posting. The time window for editing was a period when the poster could reaccess his post and tweak it. He might have to wait the 60 seconds before reposting, but he could pull up the post and make the changes before the 60 secs were up. He just couldn’t hit submit, or he’d find the error message as his reply. As noted, the time window for editing could be set at 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or forever, so the 60 sec limit would not be an obstacle.
heh. That post wasn’t by grimpixie. It was by some random sock named gri r n pixie, minus the spaces of course. Note that he’s already banned.
I had to keep squinting at the name… weird thing is, I think we’re still missing a post here. I got an email that said Volutus Maximus had posted here.
