Hello, this is my first post here and I hope I have it in the rite thread.
I have 2 questions 1 about these boards and 1 about boards and forums in general.
My first question is ,who moderates the mods on message boards and public forums ? I have been a member on a seemly popular public forum for 4 months and it seems that there are times a poster will be way out of line in a thread that they really have no business posting in, example , A grandmother came on and posted for info and comfort about her daughters plan to have an abortion .She ask if there were any women on that had had an abortion, a 17 year old boy started trashing the grandmother about pro life vs pro choice immediately and got very rude and ugly ,no mods in sight, a week or so later a post was locked and the OP member temporarily banned for trying to explain their post to two others that was calling him curse words and worse. I googled this and searched yahoo and msn also no matter how I worded the question or how I advanced searched all I came up with was moderators forums and asvertisements for mods needed. Second , Is there a new people intro yourself thread here ? I’m fairly sure I’ve looked around pretty through but don’t see a thread for intros.
I spent the better part of the afternoon yesterday looking over the archives here came across a bunch of info some questions are ones I’ve asked or wondered about myself ,so now I’m smarter by a dozen or questions and then some were ones I never dreamed someone would ask ,
Well hello everyone and again i hope I guessed the right thread for my question . Later. Kat
It depends on the website and history. There is no 1 rule for all of the internet that will explain how each forum came to be the way it is.
Just start a thread introducing yourself in the MPSIMS forum.
People will come around with offers of pies and goats and suchlike.
You basically put it in the correct thread. If you were asking about the moderators on THIS board, then you should have started it in About This Message Board–ATMB.
A suggestion–try to write in paragraphs. It makes it easier to read.
As has been said, there is no general rule for moderators in different websites.
Moderators here are volunteers. When new moderators are needed, either due to the retirement of a previous moderator or the establishment of a new forum, they may be selected in either of two ways: 1) chosen from among those posters who have submitted applications to be moderators previously; or 2) nominated by existing members of the moderation staff from among posters who they think might make good moderators.
Ok thats why I could come up with nothing with the keywords.
Thanks.
Good guessing my first time here . I wanted to make it plain I was not posting about this board, thanks for the info about if I ever do want to .
My apoligies about the paragraphs, I type my posts in an online spell checker and sometimes forget to indent when I bring them to the post window.
That sounds intresting “offers of pies and goats and suchlike” can’t wait to find out what the and suchlike involves, lol
Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I picked up on the mods volunteers on most sites while surfing the search engines . I am not trying to stir up trouble on any site nor do I plan on posting or reporting either one of the examples because I never posted on either of them, there for it’s not my place. But it did get me to wondring about ‘who mods the mods’ , And I came across a link to this site on another public forum in a thred about questions and straight answerd ,
Thanks for your reply.
Moderators on these boards must give access to their desktops to Cecil Adams. When they step out of line, he makes their computers go to sites of religious glurge, random goatse images, and Carrottop standup routines.
Which explains a lot…
 or would that be eewwww and all for volenteering ?
Thanks .
<mod>
Part of it is knowing when to move a post to a different forum.
Like now.
GQ > ATMB
</mod>
The eeekkks and eeww’s were for the sites he moves computers to .
Ok do I have this right ant questions about forums be it this one or anyone in general goes in this thread ?
Thank you.
I moved it here because the topic had turned toward this board.
Nothing bad you did, katpohl. It’s purely opinion sometimes.
And welcome to the board!
Hey, katpohl, just curious…what does the stuttering comma sequence mean? Is that the newest online lingo we all have to learn now?
None, it has no meaning at all , it is a bad habit I have and most times try to edit out before I post .
Thank you.
On the subject of “Who Mods the Mods?”
On this site.
This board has a group of “Administrators” who keep an eye on things.
I think the buck ultimatly stops with the admin and general boss man called “Ed Zotti”.
Generally
This board and many others have a seperate forum that only moderators can see or post in.
In my experience, as a Mod and husband to a Mod, on other sites if one Mod does something out of line the other will talk to them in the privacy of their own forum. Or possibly via private messaging on smaller sites.
Thank you .
