A question about pussy.

Can/will a male cat spray after he’s been fixed? We have a Russian Blue male who has been fixed for over 5 years. We’ve been thinking about getting a dog, but we don’t want Napoleon spraying all over the house because he’s pissed about the dog. We had a dog once, and the cat sprayed, but that was before he was snipped! What can we expect now?

Perverts!:rolleyes"

Maybe I’m on the board too much, but as soon as I saw the thread I thought “Oh, a thread about cat problems trying to draw eyeballs through sexual ineuendo”

Anyway, browsed a few cat newsgroups after reading this, and the consensus seemed to be that territory marking continues after fixing, although it is reduced somewhat.

I have a pussy (his name is Muffin) who still sprays even though he’s been snipped. He doesn’t seem to have any trouble doing so, either–ya just gotta scold him not to if he does it someplace you’d rather he not.

Or get a female cat. Just make sure she’s been spayed. Otherwise–you’ll have “The gift that keeps on giving.”

I’m with Kyb. Your cheap attempts at shenanigans did not fool me for a second! If this were a REAL sex thread, the title would be “A question about… uhm… you know… vaginas…”

I’m NOT amused.

Okay, so I’m disappointed more than anything. I want a sex thread!

It’s possible that he’ll start spraying, but certainly not guaranteed. My cats (male littermates - both fixed) were 4 when I got my dog, and they adapted beautifully - absolutely no behavior problems at all. I think it helped that I got a puppy who (at the time) was smaller than they were. I also didn’t let the dog up on the furniture, or pester them too much.

Good Luck

i think people create cat questions just so they can attempt to be clever.

I once scared the hell out of my ex’s (snipped) cat and he did a good job of spraying me, almost as a reflex.

Yes, he can!

We’ve had a British Blue, TC, for 5 years, since he was about 2 years old. Our friend that found TC had him snipped. Then we brought home a female Maine Coon kitten in 1998. When she went into heat, he started spraying. VCR, books, walls, $120 sport jacket that I forgot to hang in the closet instead of a dining room chair: everything was a fair target.

We shelled out and got her spayed, and the spraying stopped. For a month. Then my wife got pregnant. And TC started spraying again. And it hasn’t stopped.

We’ve tried pheromones that are supposed to make him feel more at ease, but they’re only slightly effective. The next step is getting kitty-dose Prozac.

I have hope. Someone told me that once my wife stops lactating, the hormones she’s emitting will cease, and he’ll go back to normal.

Yeah, yeah, you think you’re so clever. I knew it had to be something like this with threads about penises and female orgasms floating about. But. I can confirm the cat will spray after being snipped, but they’re more likely to do it as a response to other cats, not dogs. My cat didn’t spray at all with the dog around, but as soon as we got another cat, yikes.
