Now, I’m not a computer person so bear with me, I’ve also unsuccessfully searched for an answer on google before approaching the throbbing hive-mind that is The Straight Dope but just ended up more confused.
Anyway, I’m thinking of buying a Tablet (probably a Google Nexus 10) apart from its normal functions I’d like to use it to read text, webpages and pdf documents etc in the same fashion as I do on my desktop PC.
Is it possible to transfer such files I’ve already saved on my PC to a Tablet open and read them in the same manner as I do on PC (find the file in save directory, click it and read it)
Tablets seem to have a somewhat different user interface and I’m not sure this is possible. I’ve saved a metric shedload of files over the years and reading them on something as user-friendly as a Tablet sounds attractive.
A Nexus 10 will connect to your computer with a standard USB cable, and you’ll be able to browse the file structure of the tablet from the computer in the same fashion as you would any other external storage device. From your computer’s perspective it will be just like a 32GB thumb drive.
There are also a bazillion different ways of doing the same thing wirelessly. One of the several syncing apps like the above-mentioned Dropbox (see also: Google Drive, Box, SugarSync, and probably 15 more I’m not thinking of), webserver apps like AirDroid which turn your device into a webserver that you can point a browser at and transfer files amongst many other things. Lots more ways that aren’t as obvious or convenient but might be to the liking of some people.
