As I am back on the weightloss wagon I have a few concerns concering skin. I have lost over 100 lbs, 377 down to 260, and have not had extra hanging flaabby skin yet, but as I enter the homestrech I am concerned that I will get more of the bat arm syndrome( NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BATARM!) not as it is now from just being fat, but from loose skin.
Is there any way that I can prevent this? ANybody here lose alot of weight and care to share their story?
I am really hoping this is in the right forum, I know its kinda GQ but I really want opinions about the subject,so if it sin the wrong forum please feel free to shoot me in my toe, or something.
First of all, congratulations on doing so fabulously well so far! That is awesome and I bow down to your superior willpower and general weight-loss excellence!
bows down, make worshipping motions with arms, chants “We’re not worthy!” a la Wayne’s World
Secondly, since it’s only opinions that you’re looking for at the mo’, mine is that you likely will have some hanging skin. I have “mummy tummy” myself. Y’know, that little extra pouch after losing all my pregnancy weight, that’s been there for 12 years and ain’t going away anytime soon. Mine is not bothersome for me, but I understand your concern.
I know several people who have lost weight on the same order of magnitude as yourself. Every person was left with some hanging skin. The older people tended to have a bit more than the younger people, perhaps due to loss of skin elasticity associated with ageing. However, one of my friends feels that she ameliorated her stretched skin problem somewhat by hydrating furiously, and scrupulous nutrition. She was in the care of a doctor and nutritionist throughout her weight-loss program and lost about 120 lbs. She was 38 years old at the time. She did end up with some hanging skin but swore that it was minimized by her careful attention to her health during weight-loss. Of course that’s pure conjecture on her part but I bet that kind of self-care didn’t hurt.
You’ll probably have to wait till you get down to your goal weight and see how you feel then. You can always think about having a Tummy Tuck if you’re not happy with how your skin looks.
Again, I’m totally blown away and impressed by your progress so far. You ROCK, girl!
I heard Oprah say that she never had the loose skin thing…that it’s more a genetic thing. You’ll either get it or you won’t. Maybe you’re one of the lucky that won’t! Are you exercising? It may help if you think you’re looking like you may go the way of the Bat.
