A Question for Bon Jovi fans

This is something which has been puzzling me for a while.

Who are “Tommy and Gina” who Mr. Jon Bon sings about in some of his songs? They’re definitely in It’s My Life and Living On A Prayer, and are probably in others I haven’t heard.

Maybe you could shed some light for me?

I’m by no means a Bon Jovi fan, but from what I remember from Living on a Prayer, they’re representations of an atypical, young, blue collar family. Tommy is a dock workre and Gina is a waitress if my memory serves me correct.

I understood that part, Skip, but there must be reason for the names to crop up in more than one song?

Questions about songs usually do best in the Cafe Society forum, so I’ll shoot this one over there.

I think that he made them up as characters for “Living on a Prayer,” and then referred to them in “It’s My Life” (composed much later). No cite, that’s just how I interpreted it when I heard “It’s My Life.”
