A Question for Lone Gunman Hypothesists

(Sigh…Here we go again, more unsubstantaited nonsense, appeals to disprove negatives, allusions to “hidden” evidence, conspiracies, yada yada yada.)

A co-worker was telling my about a recent episode of the X-Files, and was a little upset that I didn’t watch it. Rather than point out that the show’s ideas that had been better done on Zone or Limits, I just said, “It’s silly.”

Her response: “How do you know it’s not true?”

But let’s get back to selling the Brooklyn Bridge…

The chief problem with killing Kennedy from the grassy knoll is the inability to keep the team secure and unseen until the mortorcade approaches and the hit is done. (Since you’re in the open, its got to be a team of at least two, one to shoot, one to protect the shooter.) Sorry, no digital cell phones are available in 63 to handle all the coordination. More than likely, the team would be discovered by ordinary civilians way before the hit and would have to shoot their way out.

“OK guys, here’s the deal. Here’s JFK’s motorcade route printed right in the paper. He’s going to be in an open car moving at 10-15 MPH. Even though there’s lots of buildings here in Dallas (with windows that open), I’m going to position you right in the open on that knoll over there. The way the acoustics are in Dealy Plaza, maybe some people will think the shots will come from the School Book Depository. After the hit, you’ll escape on foot through the rail yard. Good luck and God bless.”

Unless the shooter wants to die, most political assassinations work in two ways. One like LHO, shoot from a high hidden sniper location and hope to blend with the crowd. Two, use a motorcycle (or car) to get close, with the rider as the shooter and get out fast.

There is also the psycho/martyr method, get close and pull the trigger/explosive device. You die (or at best get caught) too but it worked for the Tamils’ against S. Ghandi, a KGB informer against Trotsky, and would have worked for the German military against Hitler.

Mob hits? Come’on, almost all mob hits are done by acquaintances who lull the target into complacency or walk them into a trap. If JFK had been killed at or near Judith Exner’s (sp?) apartment - well, that would be a mob hit.

True story - Nov. 21, 63, Richard Nixon is in Dallas on a private business trip. Nov. 22, Lee Oswald is asked by one of his co-workers why he has something long wrapped in a cloth. “Just some curtain rods I’m returning, Oswald says.” Jan. 20, 69, Nixon becomes president. Case closed. Nixon’s the one!

The X-Files (and the History Channel’s The Men Who Killed Kennedy)say CSM (or the equivalent) shot Kennedy from the storm sewer.

What? Are you telling me the X-Files and the History Channel aren’t reliable sources? Sheesh. If TV doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will.
