A question for my Southern Bretheren

A lot of mornings, I just eat grits (no eggs). I’m a bad Southerner, I suppose, because I don’t eat pork and I prefer ‘instant’ grits to ‘cooked’ grits (as my grandmother called them). The ‘cooked’ ones actually have to simmer for a while on the stove. But I can just toss a pack or two of the instant grits in a bowl, pour in a cup or so of water and microwave for 90 seconds- breakfast to go!

Is it weird that I love grits but I despise Hominy (which is the modified corn product that grits are made from)?

You joke, but, yeah, pretty much. Everyone I know who still eats grits treats it like oatmeal or other hot cereals. Maybe that’s the real reason why Arkansans aren’t considered part of the True South?
