a question for the mods

hey mods, what do you think of my poem? i asked you what you thought but even when you were online you didn’t comment.

why? :frowning:

Because they have better things to do than critique poetry from people they don’t know. Don’t take it personally: They do run a very large message board without being paid, after all.

If you want your poetry to be read by a wider audience, post it in Cafe Society and many Dopers will eagerly give you the reviews you desire. (Note: They aren’t guaranteed to like it.)

BTW, welcome to the SDMB!

ok.

StupidSmartAgain, as a poet myself, I’ll give you a few possibilities, in order of likelihood, keeping in mind I haven’t read your poem myself.
[li]While I’ve never done an exact count, this board gets hundreds of posts a day, with dozens of new threads being started. Our moderators do this job in their own time. They may not even have had time to look at your thread. [/li]
[li]They may have seen your thread, but not be interested in poetry. Off the top of my head, I don’t remember seeing a moderator express a great interest in poetry around here.[/li]
[li]This is the painful one. One of them may have read your poem and thought it stank to high heaven, but decided to spare your feelings and not tell you. Despite rumors to the contrary, I happen to believe our moderators are not jack-booted Nazi thugs who like to run roughshod over newbies feelings. They may have taken the line, "if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything.[/li]
So, a question for you. Why does the moderators’ opinion of your poem matter to you? Granted they may be what passes for authority around here, but I’m not aware of anything that makes them more qualified to judge poetry than anyone else. If I wanted good opinion on poetry, I’d go to, say Triskademus, or some other poster who I know knows something about poetry and has written some.

I’d also like to give you a couple of links. Some time ago, Triskademus started The Poetry Thread in which people could post their poems, and Talking About “The Poetry Thread” where people could comment on the poems. I keep the second one bookmarked because it contains a link to the first one. If you look, you’ll see poems by several posters, including me, and comments on them.

Welcome to the Boards. I should warn you, if you’re here purely to get your ego-stroked, you are definitely in the wrong place, especially here in the Pit. You do realize this is where some newbies get roasted over an open fire and served with a side of fries, right? On the other hand, if you relax and enjoy the conversation, this can be one of the best places on the net.

CJ

i am not here to get ego stroked. it was a poem written about mods, thus i wanted to know what the mods thought of the poem.

I call dibs on the new guys shoes.

Then I suggest you start hoping it’s one of the first two possibilities. By the way, if you’re feeling brave, you might want to give us a link to the poem. If you don’t, I suspect someone will shortly.

CJ

Oh, that was just mean Brutus. At least wait for the corpse to cool before you knock-off his boots will ya.

i reposted it in the better forum.

Always happy to oblige, CJ: poem

And, obviously, it’s complete and utter crap.

 thanks for the constructive criticism, asshole.

OMFG.

One time, we got our family Rottweiler (Kaiser!) drunk. He sneezed a lot, almost took off gramps’ prosthetic leg, and put a dent in the fridge. Even in his intoxicated state, he could have written a better poem.

Geez StupidSmartAgain…I dunno what to say. I am gobsmacked. You have a way with words that is beyond…

Good luck mate!

Nah, seriously, well done and good luck. Guts like you’ve got deserve accolades!

On the other hand, you might want to wait longer than a half hour before you bitch that you haven’t gotten any feedback.

:: smelling a rat somewhere ::

 1. I very rarely like poetry, though I can generally appreciate good poetry.

 2. Yours was not good poetry.

 3. Don’t repost unless a mod tells you to.

 4. Next time the smilie elections are held, I’m DEFINITELY voting for a puking smilie, just so I can answer questions like this without overly exerting myself.

(from Siege)

That’s a base and utter lie! There’s nothing I like better than to make lampshades out of posters!

There are ten too many letters in his user name.

huh? what?

i posted two days ago, and i didn’t get any feedback between now and then. i reposted it, because that is apparently the forum for such things, and so i could also get critiqques.

This thread is comic gold.

StupidSmartAgain: Where were you when I started the Vogon Poetry Contest Thread?

Seven:
In bed with your mom.

GUESS WHAT WE WERE DOING!~~~!
that’s right. the hokey pokey.
now turn yourself around and get the fuck out of my thread.
