A Question for those who understand Numerology

Well, I have to admit, I know very little about it, other than simple things have numbers attributed to them, and when added up, those numbers can have meaning. So, if someone can explain a little bit more of the subject, that would be great.

Here’s the thing. Talking with one of my co-workers, she told us this great coincidence: She was born on February 9th, in room 9, at 9:00 p.m., wieghed 9 lbs, 9 oz, and has 9 letters in her name.

So, from this information, what can be gathered? I’m just really curious, because that is some really interesting coincidences.

9 upside down is 6…your co-worker could be the beast.

The Skeptic’s Dictionary has a pretty good entry on it.

Well 9*6 is 54 which gives 9 (5+4) which is a triple 3 and 3 is magical and lucky. Apparently she should buy the office lottery ticket.

Not all that amazing. You say she has 9 letters in her name, but does that include her middle name too? Does she have a lot of 9s in her Social Security Number? Was she on the 9th floor of the hospital, or was the hospital on 9th Street? 9th baby born that day? Conceived on the 9th day of a month?

The thing is, she selected which numbers are of significance, and is omitting a lot of other numbers that we could call equally important if we wanted to. For instance, she chose 9 pm rather than citing it as “military”/24-hour-clock time, 21:00. If 21 was important to her numerology belief, she’d probably list it that way.

She doesn’t know anything about numerology, so I don’t think the time was chosen because one number is more important to her than another, but that is an interesting point.

What other numbers/things would be helpful to gain anything more substantial from all this?

Obviously only when standing on her head.

Well if she was beign honest about it she would notice that she should’ve been born in September not February.

I see she has six 9’s, so that’s 69 and that may have some significance.

Nothing. Numerology is bunk.

If we went looking we could all find a whole string of similar numbers in out lives, especially if we get to pick and choose which ones are significant and how we’re going to quantify and measure things.

Your co-worker’s tale is just that; makes for an interesting tale but nothing more. Fortunately not only is numerology bunk, it’s also very vague and contradictory, kind of like most of “New Age Wisdom”. So if you want to have a decent tale to take back to her just do a web search on “Numerology 9”. You’ll find that her co-incidental 9s are extremely significant, but not so significant that you can’t make them mean just about anything you want them to.

Number nine… number nine… number nine…

Most of the things you have in this are incidentals numerologically speaking. If she was born 2/9 (need the year) the number 2 would be more important because 2+9= 11 = 1+1=2. 9 am can be factored into this, but it still equals a two.

Numerology like astrology, palmistry, tarot etc revolves around broad concepts. The purpose isn’t to tell the future but give the person potential insight into who they are. 2’s generally mean the person has a dual nature or has a great need to be balanced as a general rule. This theme supposedly should repeat within her lifetime (assuming the year allows the numbers to remain a 2) and has more significance to her than non-2’s.

If she was a 9, then she would have a need for great wisdom and/or sees herself as having wisdom. She could also be seen as very compassionate. All of the thematic lifestyle mumbo jumbo from above would apply. Even though it is general enough to apply to everyone it should take a special place for her.

I am not a numerologist though. It seems it already has as a self fulfilling prophecy, nine is important to her thus she speaks of how it is important. Anyway, from what I know of divination, it is only a tool used for self discovery. If it opens up avenues for reflection for her, more power to her.So in essence, numerology (as well as other divination) doesn’t really give a lot of specific insight but gives topics for the person to reflect upon later.
