A question of Domains (tech and opinion)

I am clearly not a master of my domain, so I pose the following to you:

I own a domain, http://www.babble-on.com. I have pages on it, but the only way to get to the ‘site’ is to go to http://www.babble-on.com/geeks.htm. If I go to http://www.babble-on.com, it brings me to a file directory where my htm/gif files are stored.
How can I set it up so that entering just the standard address will take me to my ‘main’ site? (if it means anything, I have the site hosted on freeservers.com)

Next, someone has mentioned an interest in purchasing the domain, a vice-president of a corporation (the size I cannot determine since I cannot locate them on the net). Just out of curiousity, what do you think a domain like that is worth? I’m certainly not a squatter, and this is the only domain I’ve ever registered.

Thanks for the help!

The default webpage for a site is usually entitled index.htm. Try adding a page with that address and see if the domain automatically brings it up.

As for domain valuation…that depends on how badly someone wants it - and only you can judge that from their communications. Me, I’d take cost + a three-figure sum for mine if it was offered; the market just isn’t that interested these days. If it’s a trademarked name, you should take whatever they offer - but IMHO (and I Am Not A Lawyer!) it sounds like a generic name to me, so you shouldn’t need to worry too much.

Yeah, I notice you don’t have an index.htm or index.html page, so you won’t be seeing anything until you do.

Worked like a charm… THANKS!!!

(they never taught me that little tidbit in HTML training)

Just a word of warning. I have actually had people offer to buy my domain names claiming to be with a major corporation. This is often true, but is not always so. Before you do ANY transferring of the domain name, make sure you have a check (the non rubber variety) in your hand.
