My dilemma:
I have at my disposal $3000/year tuition reimbursement from my employer, as long as I still work full-time while also going to school. Woot.
I have a BS in Zoology, circa 1997, with the the matching (now expired) GRE scores from 1996. Decent General scores. The Biology Subject test kicked my ass. I believe I’m in good company there though.
I am interested in returning to school in some form or fashion to persue the education and skills needed for the production of scientific documentaries.
At nearby Georgia State, they offer a Bachelors and a Masters in Film/Video. I hear it is a good program.
A component of consideration for admission to the Masters program is a portfolio. Being a Zoology major who has worked in the internet industry for the past 5 years, I’m fresh out of film portfolios.
Is it concievable for me to be able to put one together, with no film courses under my belt (unless you count community college Cinema Appreciation, when I was 18…10 years ago), with no known access to any equipment, with no idea what a film portfolio should include?
Taking the GRE’s again would suck assholes, but I’d give it a shot.
Or should I just bite the bullet and get a second Bachelors? If I wanted/needed grad school after that, I’d be much better equipped to apply. And I might not need a Masters to find decent documentary-related work.
Conveniently, the second Bachelors would cost just about as much as my tuition reimbursement, whereas Grad school would require other funds.
…but I’m about to turn 29…I can’t be in school forever. I have to start paying the piper back at some point.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
