A ramen noodle appreciation/recipe thread.

I bought some packages of Pot Noodle when I was in Ireland because I thought the name was hilarious.
Same kind of idea. Here in the US we have the same kind of product - ramen in a cup, just add boiling water.
I like the Nissin Cup Noodle, chicken flavor the best.
The ones I can get in Chinatown are much better, but they have little ENglish on them so I’m never sure what I’m buying. I especially like the ones that just say “Hot Taste” on them.

The ramen-in-a-brick has to be boiled, it needs more cooking and won’t soften properly if you just add hot water.

My favorie thing to do with ramen (beef flavor) is prepare according to package instructions, except add frozen corn and peas in the last 30 seconds of boiling. Drain most of the water so I have a starchy broth and then mix in the flavor packet along with a teaspoon or so if Vietnamese chili sauce. Mmmm.

Sometimes I’ll use 1/2 the packet from one flavor and 1/2 the packet from another flavor.

My sister used to make the most vile ramen concoction ever - she’d make chicken flavor ramen and stir in a beaten egg, and then (urp) shredded cheddar cheese. It might have been good, I never tried it, but the leftovers looked absolutely gross in the fridge in a glass jar.

Hey, ** Motorgirl**, I did the same thing as your sister, except I scrambled the eggs first.

(allegedly) Thai Beef’n’Noodles, a.k.a. Instant Ramen In Party Clothes:

Cut up around a pound of beef into little pieces and marinade in a mixture of 2 tablespoons each: sugar, cooking oil, vinegar, lemon juice, and soy sauce. Also a few dashes of hot sauce. Let it marinade for a while, two hours at a minimum - the cheaper the beef, the longer the soak.

When you’re ready to cook, dice an onion and place it in a collander over a bowl. Pour the beef and marinade into the collander. Fry the beef and onion mixture. Meanwhile, heat up a big pot of water and boil three packets of ramen noodles in a suitable beefy flavor. If you can find something that says “spicy beef” or “chili beef” you’ve hit the jackpot.

Into the reserved marinade (I told you to put the collander over a bowl!), add a double handful cashew nuts, whatever veggies you have lying around that look good, and a little bit of mint.

When it’s all cooked and the noodles drained, mix it all in the bowl. Pop it in the microwave to get it all piping hot. Serves at least two adults.
