A Rant For The Ladies

I take cranberry extract (in pill form) whenever I feel a UTI coming on - it does the same thing as the juice, only with no sugar and far, far fewer calories. Just drink a ton of water along with.

I used to get frequent UTI’s and nothing worked like cranberry juice. But what really got rid of them was going off the pill after Mr. Cake got the snip. I lost both the UTIs and ovarian cysts that had been plaguing me. 15 years now with no recurrence. For me, at least, there was a serious connection with screwy hormones caused by BC pills.

Let me get this straight. You got antibiotics, but skipped the pyridium? Why, WHY would you do such a thing to yourself? Pyridium is every woman’s best friend in times like these. Pick up the phone straight away and tell your doctor you want a prescription THIS SECOND. The hurt will go away. Thank me later.

Pyridium is over the counter in most states - brand name “Azo”. It doesn’t work particularly well for me.

I have Azo. It does nothing but make me pee orange. Thanks though!

I third the Uristat recommendation. I haven’t heard of the Cystex, though. I keep Uristat on hand, and the second I feel an infection possibly coming on, I pop the dose and start chugging cranberry juice. Works like a charm (for me).

Azo Cranberry? Makes sense. I’ve used that before.

I definitely drink lots of water…more than I could ever need.

I’ve had a couple of weird experiences with them this year, though. I’m pretty sure I had one this year and my dad (a doctor) just gave me a scrip for Cipro…then a couple weeks later I thought I had another, so I drank a lot of water/cranberry juice, took vitamin C. By the time I had my doctor’s appointment, I was still peeing a lot but feeling a bit better…and then the urine sample ended up coming back as negative. I guess I managed to get rid of it? I also thought I was getting one when I started having sex, but it seems I headed that one off at the pass by boning up on my water/cran juice consumption. These days, at the merest hint of something not quite right, I start in with the cranberry juice.

Weird. I take BC to prevent those damned ovarian cysts. I don’t understand how you could even get one if the pills were working properly, i.e. preventing ovulation. That’s not to say I’m doubting you. I’m sure you know your girly parts better than I do. I just fail to comprehend…

Aww man, and you just got your groove back too. Speedy recovery to you!

Watersports – the fun way to avoid UTIs.

Well you learn something new every day. I thought you drank the cranberry juice. No wonder this happens:

I know, right?

Luckily we are going out tonight on a sex free date and this weekend he is going to CT to visit his mom, so by the time he gets back everything will be all clear. I am going to make sure that my house is never without cranberry juice from now on and make sure to go to the bathroom ASAP after sex so that this never happens again!

You owe me a keyboard!

Actually, peeing on keyboards wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.

I was reading the cystex website I linked to, and they recommend having the cranberry juice and the cystex BEFORE sex, as a preventative. Interesting…

Size does matter. I once had to break up with a college boyfriend because of his excessive girth. Just couldn’t make a long term commitment to UTIs. I was hooked on Uristat for the duration of the relationship.

I’m telling my husband this-- (me of the very frequent UTIs). It’s going to be his bday gift.

Ivoryhusband jumps into room and shouts " Wahoo" and jumps back out.

Hi honey! I see you got my email!
