Forgot to kill initial {B}'s here and here.

GAH!

In an effort to answer Scylla’s Pit thread, I decided it was best to print out the GD thread he was referencing instead of trying to read through 5 pages on the screen. YIKES! The “printable version” is so bad, I don’t even know where to begin to find all the errors that make it completely impossible to read in that format. It’s a nightmare. Can someone try to fix it, please?

Thank you very much.

At your service. Trying to fix the coding errors in that thread took ten years off my life. Preview, please!

As long as we’re all here, let me reiterate what Arnold said… preview. That goes a long way towards helping you catch coding errors.

"Pretty, pretty, PRETTY please put the following in your posts:

I have an idea…instead of all of us typing that for every post we do, why don’t you add it to the post you want to print yourself with a html page editor?

I tried to run some online HTML page code checkers but they timed out on this page.

Anyway, I looked at the printable page with Netscape 6.1 & IE 5.5 & they look acceptable. If I want to I can just select ‘edit page’ then ‘select all’ then change the font to whatever i want it to look like. it all takes an amazing ten seconds or so…depending on board speed.

I don’t doubt that one bit. It had to have taken you quite a while to even find all the errors in that mess. And I thank you very much for doing it!

With regard to this, I have a question. On another message board I post to, there is no “post” option until you’ve previewed. IOW, the only buttons at the bottom of the reply window are “preview” and “clear.” Only after hitting preview will the “post” button be available, along with a button that says “edit your post” so you can go back and make changes, and if you do that, once you’re back on the edit screen, your only options again are “preview” and “clear”. Is there any way to force the vB software to do that here?

No, because vBulletin 2.0.3 and up already has a button on the “Post” and “Reply” screen that will “Close all tags”, that does this. And it is irrelevant, since the SDMB is not likely to ever upgrade from 1.1.6. Hell, even I’m behind the times now (2.2.0 is the current release).

Does it really help to ask for a “printable version” of a page?

I’ve printed threads both ways, and it seems they both print just fine, only the “printable” version is less familiar-looking.

Does it have anything to do with that browser parameter “Print Backgrounds” (On the Internet Options - Advanced tab) ? Maybe you could toggle that setting and get good print results.
