A scummy child-molesting Republican. What a shock.

Then this shitbag should win an academy award for best actor.

Oh, it’s OK. He just “mistreated the boys”. Which is I guess Republican-speak for “I just made 14 year olds under my care suck on my dick”.

But as we’ve been told, Democrats are bad, so we should just overlook this, mkay?

Well, AFTER the judge went on and on it seems that actually it’s 15 months in jail followed by two years supervised release.

Honestly, 15 months still isn’t enough for the scum but if that’s the best the so-called justice system can do I suppose it’s better than nothing.

And no, I do not advocate jailhouse rape for anyone. I do wonder if he’s going to wind up in the “governor’s wing” of prison, though.

And yeah, he still can’t bring himself to admit he molested those boys.

I assume you’re talking about the Democrats? They push gun-control, higher taxes to redistribute wealth, require businesses to serve customers against their will, and censor speech they don’t like, among other things. I don’t disagree with those positions but they are imposing (or attempting to impose) their morality.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of one, true. But I do remember the pass that feminist groups/politicians gave Bill Clinton during the height of his numerous sexual scandals. A pass that he still gets.

Would you like some more straw for your man?

I’d say he has he admitted his guilt.

What I did was wrong and I regret it, they looked to me and I took advantage of them.

Nope, not good enough. Not good enough until he stands (or at least sits) up and states something like: “Hi, my name is Dennis and when I was a wrestling coach I molested and fondled the genitals of young men and boys who trusted me. I hurt those boys and left scars on them that last a lifetime. I am a child molester, and no other good thing I’ve done in life excuses that or mitigates it.”

“took advantage of” or “mistreated” are good enough as statements. He has to admit he’s a molester. Haven’t heard all the details of the cases, but he might well be a rapist as well. That needs to be admitted and owned.

He admitted it.

i never said that I thought he should be let off easy. I think he should rot in jail just like he wanted for others who did what he did. 9And I see he didn’t get that)
I just didn’t think he was faking the chair.

You understand that he wasn’t charged with molesting anyone, right?

You understand that he was pleading guilty to structuring financial transactions to avoid reporting?

Are you saying that his sentence for that crime should really be a sentence for molestation?

Agreed, I think he got more time than most would for the crime he actually plead guilty to, especially someone of his age and “years of public service.” I would have guessed 6 months confinement, not 15. Not that I mind.

True, THIS case against Hastert was for the financial shenanigans. There was no prosecution (yet) for the sex crimes that were revealed during the course of this trial.

It’s not like when another crime is discovered in the course of a trial it’s automatically folded into the ongoing prosecution. Let the authorities look into whether he can still be charged for any of those actions and, if so, go ahead and pursue it to the fullest.

Absolutely. He certainly should be held to the fire for whatever can be done to prosecute him for the sex crimes.

It’s my understanding that the statute of limitations is up and there is [virtually] no possibility of him being tried for sex crimes.

I"m enjoying Hastert’s fact-based Wikipedia page. The first line is:

"John Dennis “Denny” Hastert (/ˈhæstərt/; born January 2, 1942) is a former Republican politician from Illinois, the 51st Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1999 to 2007, and an admitted serial child molester.[2][3] "

As I said, not good enough. Not good enough to acknowledge someone else saying it.

HE has to say “I am a child molester” out of his own mouth.

Or what? It’s not like we’ll think better of him if he says that.

As Bricker correctly noted above, he has to be sentenced for the crime he was convicted of, not the crime we wish he was convicted of.

He will never be convicted of molesting and/or raping anyone because of the statute of limitations.

I will not believe that he has accepted what he has done and his own guilt until he stops nodding at people saying “you’re a child molester” and actually says those words himself. Right now he still seems to think he’s the victim and he’s not, he’s the perpetrator.

Once again, or what? He knows he did it; we know he did it; he knows we know he did it. What repercussions does he suffer from not saying so in words that are acceptable to you?

Realistically Hastert doesn’t give a damn what I think of him.

Me - I want him to realize the depths of his depravity. Right now I believe his only true regret is in getting caught.
