I speak Canadian. The word perhaps appears in print and conversation, but is not pronounced in the sense of having meaning.
Wait, is that what it means when Canadians say “sorry”, too?
Perhaps.
As a fellow Canadian, I approve of this message.
In this thread: "House to start an impeachment inquiry into President Biden"
Sam links to the House Oversight Committee’s (dishonest) memos on supposed Biden wrongdoing, repeating them as if they are factual. Some responders rightfully point out that even these memos don’t actually accuse Joe Biden directly of wrongdoing, presuming that Sam is being honest and accurate here. But once again, with a few clicks (and google searches) it is quite easily demonstrated that the GOP House committee is lying, and their claims about the Bidens are almost entirely false (the ones that aren’t false are generally just mundane, like “Hunter did business with foreign companies”). Sam gleefully repeats these lies.
So just a reminder to presume that Sam is always lying, and/or always wrong, and that his links are always either dishonest, inaccurate, or being summarized inaccurately by Sam. Don’t give him any benefit of the doubt. Always challenge his cites, and his “factual” claims. They’re almost always wrong.
Jesus Christ, he is tiresome.
He’s a junkie with this message board as his fix. Not only could he not stop himself from lurking constantly when he ‘left’, now that he’s fallen off the wagon, he’s posting with wild abandon in that thread. I’d take odds on how long it takes him to hit a dozen posts in there, but he’ll have passed that mark before anyone could place bets.
Don’t. Engage. With. Him.
Whenever we’ve had a poster like him over the years, that has always been my advice, but people just can’t resist. Like they think this time he (or his ilk) will say, “Oh yeah! You’re right! I’m such a dufus. Thank you for setting me straight!”
Yes, he’s tiresome. But the really tiresome thing is the long, pointless discussions that follow when people feel compelled to engage. Don’t.
Returning the the “laptop” again and again. To prove what, I"m not sure. Owning a laptop is still not a crime.
I don’t know his history as well as some others do, and I have had productive dialog with him before, though not on this kind of partisan political issue.
I will humbly accede to your well-established wisdom on the subject
In my experience with Sam, finding and pointing out his lies usually frustrates him enough that he goes away, sometimes for weeks. Also, it’s fun.
Looks like we just have to wait until he is finished with dinner before he blows this case wide open. Can’t wait!
I don’t think that. I’ve never thought that. But I do know that roughly a third of the citizenry of this country buys into this bullshit exactly like Sam Stone does. Some of them are persuadable. Some of them read this message board.
It’s for them that I argue against the intractable Sam Stone. And to me, it’s worth it if even one of them is moved to question what they’re being told beyond RW media.
That’s a disappointing comment to read. Personally disparaging someone because you don’t like their political views – especially someone who makes positive contributions to the board outside the political arena – isn’t cool, nor is intentionally trying to drive someone away as you seem to be doing. Most importantly, it’s counterproductive to the objective of getting someone around to your point of view. It tends to just raise their hackles and may make them even more resistant to logical persuasion.
I disparage Sam because he lies and spreads lies, not because he disagrees with me. And yes, I think it’s good when serial liars stay away, at least for periods of time. Do you think it’s wrong to disparage liars, or hope they stay away?
You clearly haven’t paid attention to this shitheel. @Sam_Stone is a liar and a troll, full stop. I have heard for years about his “positive” contributions outside of politics the entire time but yet to see a single one I can recall. He is the laziest sort of poster who shares cites based on little more than the article title or first sentence when actually reading the article does not support his arguments. I made a decision some time ago to not engage with his dishonesty and trollery. The sooner everyone else does the same and he goes away for good, the better for this board.
@Wolfpup is starting to pull similar tricks–making blanket assertions without evidence, then when other folks bring receipts, twisting the facts to match what he said to begin with. Like defends like, as far as I can tell: they’re on different ends of the political spectrum, but their shared disdain for facts brings them together.
You’re a stronger woman than I am.
I tend to avoid his political posts, which may skew my perspective. You may not have encountered many of his non-political posts, which are often articulate and informative.
I think it can be counterproductive if you’re trying to persuade them.
After what you’ve just gone through, I don’t think that’s true.
I just have a greater capacity to ignore bullshit.
