A show like the early Daily show

Is there a show out there that’s like the Daily Show was, before it got all political? I got off of it when everyone couldn’t shut up about how miserable our lives were gonna be with the economy in the toilet. I realized that all news seems to be fearmongering, not just Fox. And with my anxiety disorder, I decided it wasn’t worth it.

Ideally, such a show would be available online, as I no longer have cable.

Also, I welcome extremely funny clips from TDS or the Colbert Report, as I no longer watch them religiously. When something is funny enough, it can overwhelm any anxiety I would feel.

Am I missing something or are you asking the members here to pre-screen TV shows and tell you which ones are both funny and online?

I recommend The Soup. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the lighter, sillier Friday night version of The Daily Show. When, like you, I can’t watch The Daily Show because I don’t want all the angst of the news, I know that The Soup will make me laugh about stuff that no one could possibly feel anxious about (the Kardashians, American Idol, Miley Cyrus). Give it a try.

 What is wrong with that? Isn’t this part of what Cafe Society is all about?

I vote for infomania.

It’s very funny and combines a bunch of stuff… a little news, a little entertainment, a little other stuff. I never saw The Daily Show in its old days, but it sounds like this might fit the bill.

eta: if nothing else, the Target: Women segment is probably the best thing ever and is definitely available online.

I like The Soup as well for really silly and light entertainment news. There’s some clips of the show on youtube as well if you want to see what it’s like.

The Daily Show with Craig Kilborn was before it got political. I wish that was online.

I think s/he missed my point about the show being similar in format to the Daily Show. I also mentioned my anxiety disorder, and am a little tepid about just checking out shows willy-nilly that might set it off. And I’ve seen “Recommend a show like <insert something here>” threads before, so I didn’t think there was anything wrong with that. (The last part was just a concession for people who couldn’t think of anything, but know of a TDS/CR clip that shouldn’t provoke anxiety. Probably should’ve been another thread.)
The Soup is something I thought of right after my post–it definitely qualifies. It’s a single person who, like Jon when he first started, makes fun of celebrities all the time that occasionally has bits with other people.

infoMania sounds good, too. It’s actually even set up sorta like news show!

If y’all got more, I’d love to hear it.

The old Steven Colbert interviews on The Daily Show. Great stuff.

Have you watched Chelsea Handler’s show? The few I’ve seen seem to be nothing but making fun of celebrities?

It’s slightly vulgar, but Daniel Tosh’s show Tosh.0 is funny and not at all political.

If you like The Soup, you might also like The Dish. Definitely lighter fare.

Second on this. It’s easy to assume it’s a clip show of Internet videos (like G4 has run), but it’s really not. It’s a snarky humor show ala TDS or The Soup, but focused on Internet culture rather than news or TV.

Best answer ever!

There are a few clips on YouTube, but they seem to be mostly promos.

Pretty much anything with Jay Leno is light and apolitical.
