This liberal fixation on phrases like “this isn’t America” is such self-deluded horseshit. It IS America. That’s what you are, and that’s why Trump and his goons are in charge. Accepting the problem is the first step in fixing it.
Trust me, Canadians have their own self-delusions.
That might be it. One quote from that movie I do remember is the Gene Hackman character telling a story about his father to the Willem DaFoe character; it ends with: “If you ain’t better than a n*****, son, who are you better than?”
I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the die-hard Trumpsters feel the same way. And you could probably apply that to any non-white person.
I’ve posted this anecdote here before, but after Oprah Winfrey gave her speech at the Oscars, people were saying maybe she should run for president. One Facebook Trumpster I know commented: “Didn’t we already have a black president? Let’s not make the same mistake twice.”
Yes, it is their country; it’s also not their country. It’s a contradiction, but not an illogical one. The point is, it’s not JUST their country.
And they’re only running some of it; we’re fighting like hell to make sure they don’t run the rest of it completely into the ground, which is what they ultimately intend to do.
I see apathy - far too much of it, which is why I whinge to anyone bored enough to read what I write. But I also see some people are beginning to realize that they’re being kicked in the head and don’t like it.
Trump voters feel threatened by change, threatened by the perceived loss of their status. If they would just check out a fucking book at a library or get a shred of curiosity to look beyond news outlets they agree with, they’d realize they’re being exploited.
The nobility of spirit you demonstrate by screaming on a messageboard is an inspiration to [del]all of us[/del] [del]some of us[/del] [del]those of us who don’t think you are a fruitcake[/del] somebody, somewhere, probably.
Lyndon Johnson: “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
I’d be inclined to agree with you if the left wasn’t trying to police speech, take people’s rifles, refuse voter ID, change the electorate to favor themselves through illegal immigration, etc.
The left is trying to cockblock the right while angling for themselves through the backdoor as they campaign to take power away from the citizens “for the greater good” (of themselves).
Speech. Rifles/guns. Religion. Illegal Immigration. Taxes. Im not gonna type a wall of text substantiating these as they are basic conservative tenants and you’re a moderator, I’m sure you know what conservative position is.
Not to mention that it’s not voter ID per se that “the left” is against. It’s the way it’s being put into practice. For the clueless, look up “disparate impact” and “disparate intent”.
