This was published eleven days ago, I am bringing it up in another thread but thought a wider audience (cause the other thread is potentially depressing so probably won’t be looked at much) may appreciate it.
It’s a story that posters and lurkers at this message board may conceivably appreciate. Amongst composers, there was only one Beethoven. Beethoven wrote nine symphonies. The ninth symphony contains four movements. There’s only one ninth symphony, fourth movement by Beethoven in the world. The best piece of music ever, to anyone objective like me.
Is this thread that? No, of course not. But I wasn’t setting out for that, I was just out to share a humerous article. This is more like, I dunno, one of the eagles songs that no one can remember. Still a hell of a lot better than most people can do and a totally positive contribution to humanity, dude.
I was shocked at the concept, but when I read the article this quote from one of the mourners says it all “Wils was a lad, rough around the edges but anything other than a warts and all eulogy wouldn’t have done him justice, he would have been p****** himself from heaven when he heard it.”
It reminds me of the eulogies by the surviving Pythons at Graham Chapman’s funeral.
Since the mourners understood the context, I think it’s a much better eulogy than the bland generic one my grandfather got. The rabbi did not know him before the Alzheimer’s took over, and had very little specific to say.
Rest well, Willis. Your friends miss you, and the person you would have grown to be.
