What’s the best kind of glue for connecting two pieces of metal? Super-glue? Epoxy?
The glued surface is about five square inches and will need to support a constant force of roughly three pounds.

I’m thinking “gorrilla” glue, but I’m no expert, so I’m not sure.
I highly recommend a product called JB Weld. It’s a two-part epoxy specifically designed for bonding metals. I’ve used it before with excellent results. It’s probably overkill of you only need to support three pounds, but it’s pretty much guaranteed never to come loose.
I’ll second that recommendation for JB Weld. I use that stuff all the time on a variety of projects, and it works great.
I just used some 2 weeks ago to put Sammy Sosa’s left arm back on. Maybe now he’ll hit the damned ball.
:dubious:
What kind of metal?
Is the load in tension, i.e. tending to pull the pieces apart perpendicularly?
Or is the load in shear, i.e. tending to slide on piece on the other?
In either case the surfaces to be bonded should be roughened all over, degreased, and the epoxy or gorrila glue aplied and the parts assembled to prevent any air bubbles. Allow to thoroughly set before use.
Could any other method of joining be used? Why/why not?
