What clear, high-temperature glue/epoxy for attaching metal to glass?

I don’t know if this should go in IMHO or here; it seems like there would be a factual answer for this.

I want to glue a thin strip of steel (maybe 8 inches long) to the inside of a clear glass lamp shade. The lamp shade can get hot but I have no idea what the temperature would be (200 degrees?). I would prefer something that would be clear so that it wasn’t visible. There won’t be a lot of stress on the joint but it would be bad news if it failed. Does anybody have a suggestion on what I should use? Thanks!

Can you be more specific? For most good adhesives lamp shades aren’t going to be terribly hot. When you say the joint won’t be under a lot of stress is that a steady stress, or would it vary? I’m thinking of something swinging and changing the direction of load which can fatigue some adhesives strength.

this should be a sticky.

Use Silicone rubber, not epoxy.

Well that was interesting. That site recommended two adhesives: LOCTITE 349 and J-B Weld. 349 is a UV curing adhesive and who has a UV lamp sitting around the shop? J-B makes terrific products and they’re easily available through Home Depot or other sources. What I was thinking of was J-B clear epoxy, though why the adhesive needs to be clear I don’t know. After all, the metal component is probably not transparent. (No Star Trek jokes…)

Rear-view mirror glue is subjected to pretty high temps.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I might try the Loctite; as they mention the glue will cure in sunlight. I was trying not to go into mind-numbing detail. More below.

What I’m doing is making a hanging pendant light from url=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001N3GKKM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]this teapot. I’m drilling a hole in the bottom to insert the light fixture and the pot will hang upside down from the ceiling. The problem I’m trying to solve is how to secure the lid in a way that allows me to take it off if I need to replace the bulb. My current idea is to glue a strip of steel around the inside of the rim and glue a couple of small rare-earth magnets to the inside of the lid. Experiments using tape seem to show that this works well.

I want it to be clear because I don’t want smeared glue to show or turn an ugly yellow. There won’t be much stress on the glue but if it gives way the lid falls and likely shatters.

Ouch, the Impruv is expensive! $34 for a 50 ml bottle. Maybe I’ll use the JB Weld.

ETA: Doh, just realized link above is not well formed. Here it is: teapot
