Looking for the right stuff to stick the glass back on my passenger-side mirror

So it has been looking loose for the past several months, with the view getting more and more jiggly as time wore on.

Today I decided not to wait until the glass fell off on the highway somewhere and I simply yanked it off. I discovered that Jettas have a heated mirror, since there were wires attached directly to it (cool).

Anyway, before I go out and get just any old epoxy to put it back on with, what would be the best stuff for the job?

Bonus points if they sell it at Amazon, since I have Amazon Prime and can get free two-day shipping.

IMHO, I wouldn’t use an epoxy because they tend to be brittle when cured.

Try some clear silicone cement instead. Resistant to heat, moisture, and vibrations.

ETA: And some masking tape to hold it in place while it cures.

FWIW, you can get a special rear-view mirror adhesive at just about any auto parts store (Pep Boys, Kragen, etc.). I don’t recall if it’s an epoxy or cyanoacrlyate base.

I present to you the wonder that is This to That:

I’m guessing you would be going Glass to Plastic, they recommend Loctite.

ETA: On closer inspection they have a page devoted to your exact problem:

So, apparently you are not the first person to wonder this.

Passenger-side mirror. On the outside of the car. The glass has come unstuck from the rest of the mirror aiming mechanism.

I used super glue (the clear stuff, that claims 3 drops sticks anything to anything, including your fingers, so be careful  )

Dunno if you ever come across to PA, but if you do, the folks at South End auto parts on Bridge Street in Morrisville were nice to deal with. They can likely take care of that while you wait for $10 or so. Ditto for Ben’s auto glass in Bristol at Farragut & Green Lane.

I hadn’t thought about having an auto glass place do it, but you’re right. I bet that that black stuff that they glue on new windshields with would do a right proper job of it. I don’t go across the river that often, so I might just hit a local place.
